Goodbye to a friend

Most of you read NG61's blog, so you probably already know that today, we lost a good friend.

Some people may think this is silly; I'm talking about a cat, Sir Smudge. Yep, the Dominant cat. I know this, by the way he had us all trained. You know, the little things that a cat trains you to do. You forget to clean out his litter box, so he sits in the hallway and meows to get your attention, and then when you go in, he walks up to the litter box, looks up at you as if to say, "Don't you have a job to do?"

I never had to worry about feeding him, because that was NG61's job. But boy, would I catch it from Sir Smudge if the water dish were empty. And don't try to fix anything to eat and think you weren't going to share. You know, the way a cat will sit next to you and give you that look..."Feed the poor, starving cat!!" Now you have to understand, the 'poor, pitiful cat' was a 19 pound Russian blue/American Tabby mix. Yep, just about the color that you get on your paper when you try to erase a mistake...the gray streaks that just won't go away. On your paper, it looks like hell, but on him, it was beautiful.

Now you start thinking about the things you're going to miss: him curled up around your feet at night when they're cold; him laying on top of you with that pitiful look of "No one loves the cat...please pet me!!!"

So go ahead and kid yourself if they're in your house. You can say that "I don't love them. I don't care", but you'll be lying. You don't realize how much until you hear those fatal words "We're sorry, but we have to put him down."

Sir Smudge's kidneys failed due to a urinary blockage. I have one consolation; he is now where his food dish will always be filled, his water dish will never be empty, and yes, his litter box will always be clean.

All I can say is...never again. After losing Sir Smudge to this; Maximus, the cat, to feline AIDS; Little Man (the chihuahua) to old age and worrying to death; his buddy, Tedrick (the chow) that someone poisoned and Little Man missed so much...I am finished. My heart cannot take any more. No more animals, I don't even want a goldfish.

So goodbye to a friend and all that have gone before him. Thank you for your love, understanding, and company when we needed it.

Miss Mae sends "Paws Up" for Sir Smudges upward travels.

I cried so hard for days on end after I lost my beloved dog, Major.
The void was not easy to fill. Amazingly, Miss Mae adopted me

I do think that our pets pick us to love and trust.

Warm huggies 2ya Lady

I am soooooooo sorry!!! We had to put down two of our beloved cats within 6 monthes of each other, it was heartbreaking. I can't even imagine what it's going to be like when one of our 3 dogs or 2 remaining cats go.

This one wishes I could be there just to listen to stories of Sir Smudge, to offer open arms when needed, but most of all just to be there. I am so sorry... and my deepest heartfelt condolences.
