The Choice

Just had my anniversary Tuesday, we celebrated 13 years of blissful marriage. Here is a poem I had written to my wife.

It was a choice. Not an effort, or a burden.
You stood at the gates of my heart.
And I chose to let you in.
Outside the gates was blowing desert stretched out for miles behind you.
I chose to let you in.
My heart is like an oasis that I have built great wall around.
Once inside you would forever be a part of me.
I chose to let you in.
Some men keep their gates locked tight.
Hoping to find someone clever enough pick the locks or scale the fence.
I chose to let you in.
Some men leave the gates wide open letting everyone in.
But soon the desert sands corrupt the plush oasis,
Making their hearts dry and callous, unable to love.
But for you my truest and dearest love.
I chose to let you in.

cheers,
tribent
