Stranger in a Strange Land

I just got through reading this book and I had forgotten how much it inspired me. I had read it when I was a teenager, but this time my more mature mind was able to see it for more that lewd fantasy. I was able to recognize the distinct flavor of the period it was written. I was able to understand its allure much more that before. I had forgotten how idealistic I had been when I was younger and how life had tainted these innocent views. I am envious of this "man from mars", I am jealous of his innocence and naive optimism. In revisiting my youth I feel both joy and regret. If I had it all to do over again I wouldn't do it all the same, but in doing it different I wouldn't still be myself. Because after all, we are only but the sum of our experiences, and to alter those experiences would alter self, and that would be a bad thing I perceive.
Anyway, I enjoyed the escape and will cherish the experiences.

Cheers,
tribent
