Obligatory Comment

Anybody who works in building with at least one hallway and at least 2 employees can identify with this here. Why, oh why, are we so dumb? Why is it that everytime I'm walking down the hall at work and someone is walking towards me we have to say something to eachother? Here's the situation, yer walking, the dude or dudette is walking. You make some comment on how your job sucks or ask "is it Friday yet?" or something else that's totally assenine but used purposely to fill that uncomfortable area between you and the other person. you have to say something, anything, just something to acknowledge that someone is here. Why? Because if you don't then you'll do what's even worse and that's to look at your watch or look away and pretend that the person isn't even there so you don't have to deal with the situation of someone walking by and you have nothing to say....

We NEVER have anything to say. Hell, we don't even like half the people we work with. But we always have this scenario so many times a day...

So my new approach is to look at the person and say "Obligatory comment". Then when they ask me what that means I repeat what I just told you all about this hallway etiquette or lack thereof. At least now I always have something to say and it means something and at the same time means absolutely nothing all while representing how I really feel. Wow, killing 3 birds with one stone. I can put that on my resume as a way I became more efficient in my job.

Yes, the whole freakin hall, gotta say something deal...try new stuff...
like while you are walking toward each other, make a face, then say watch out i think someone farted back there..and watch thier face...my fav thing to say, is when i'm waiting in line at the bank...i ask the person in front of me.."hey, do you know how to unjam an automatic pistol....it seems to make the line smaller..........LOL
