"Maria" the conclusion and hint of continuance.

"Maria" threatened to kill herself if she and her son were forced to return to Russia.

I had previously met a russian gentleman named; Evgenie whilel on assignment for Group Intelligence Hickam Air Force Base.

I explained to Evgenie about " Maria's" situation.
He correctly observed that it was probably more important to her that her
son remain in the U.S..

His solution was that he would legally adopt her son if the government denied her request for asylum. "Maria" was thrilled.

In spite of Bureau of Immigration objections [ because of her 65 arrests for prostitution in the U. S. ] ;"Maria" and her son were granted political asylum .

About five years after I was off the case I heard a radio news report about a russian woman in California with same real russian first name. She had just been sentenced to three years in the California penal system because in the course of three months in California she had built a multi million dollar prostitution ring.

I'm almost certain they were talking about "Maria". Since she had previously been a math professor at the university in St. Petersburg she had the brains to do the crime . How would she cope with doing the time?

Since she had spent the first eight years of her life in a Siberian prison camp; I think she will cope.

Will I ever see her again; I doubt that. This is still one of my most satisfying
Political Science cases

I'm not sure why, but reading this gave me the same vibe as reading "Julia" by Lillian Hellman.

Anyway, thanks for this.
