The Truth About Mango
A hoax has been perpetrated against us by someone we thought was one of our own. When it was confirmed that this indeed was a hoax, we all agreed to ignore it and let it go because not doing so would create the attention and drama this blogger was obviously looking for. However we are breaking our silence on this matter for two reasons:
1. Concerned bloggers continue to worry about this person’s health and speculate about her “ friend's ” sudden departure from Blogland.
2.This blogger’s “ friend ” has left behind a statement that implies that our trusted blogger and real-world friend WildWon1982 is at fault for her abrupt departure and has done wrong against her. It is in fact, WildWon who has suffered the most from this hoax and her slandering of his good name was something that none of us could stand by and let happen.
When we first got word of MangoMamiCT’s tragic car accident from her “friend” SleekMako, we were obviously concerned for the welfare of one of our favorite bloggers. Because of the nature of the way the news was delivered and the aftermath of the AnEnigma57 hoax, we decided to proceed with caution, get more information from SleekMako and communicate our fears, concerns and suspicions off the blogs so as not to create unnecessary drama. Out of sincere concern, several of us contacted Sleekmako through email expressing our support and concern over MangoMamiCT’s well-being. We asked for more details of the accident and Mango’s condition as well as which hospital she was in so that we could visit or send flowers. These emails were met with evasive replies and promises to provide more updates soon on her blog. Even WildWon, who by Mango’s own account on her blog, had a more personal relationship with her (she was going to see him the weekend of the accident) was refused more details and Mango’s location.
While we still were concerned, the entire situation seemed very suspicious and we began investigating the matter further in the hopes of confirming a hoax, because none of us wanted to believe that Mango was seriously injured. In the course of a week we were able to determine and confirm that much of the information Mango provided about herself both on her blog and in emails/IMs to the CT bloggers was not true. It was also obvious when reading her most recent posts and comments that she had been setting up this hoax for awhile. Some posts referred to people lying on blogs and how well do we really know each other, do we really want or expect honesty? Others concerned her wanting a clone that could do all the things she wanted to do (like meet the CT bloggers) and her dismay that people wanted to see her pic (for the longest time she was photo-less). Then when she did post her nude pics, she blogged that it was obvious she was getting more hits and responses on her blog because of her pics, not because of what she had to say. This could all be considered circumstantial evidence, but we were also able to confirm that Sleekmako was in fact MangoMamiCT. This was verified on other websites with photo evidence and factual information. At the slightest hint that someone was investigating her fabricated story, Sleek suddenly had access to Mango’s account to turn it off and delete all of her blogs as well as deleting her own profile and leaving behind that negative comment about WildWon. After seeing this we all agreed to discuss the fact that this was a hoax and attest that WildWon was not involved in any way.
We have no idea why she would want to go through all this trouble and cause so much concern among people who honestly cared for her and we’ll probably never know. We are a close group of bloggers in CT and have met on various occasions socially, we consider ourselves friends and she would have been welcome in our group regardless of what she looked like. But the person that we had gotten to know on blog was obviously a fake persona she created for whatever reason, so we never really knew her at all. Yes we are upset and angry that we’ve been subjected to this hoax but without a doubt we want to move past it and continue our happy little blogland existence. If anything, this has solidified the bonds of our group and made us appreciate the realness and trust that we share online and off. Thanks for letting us get this out there and for showing your care and concern for a blogger. Despite the fact that in this case it’s unwarranted, it’s still nice to know that people really care about each other on this site.
