We got a little pom a few weeks ago. I have goldens which are both over 10 years old. I don't remember having much trouble training them to go outside to do their thing but these are things that either I forgot or never knew.

Puppy always goes outside before you go to the bathroom.

If puppy doesn't go outside first it will watch you and do what ever you are doing in the bathroom.

Never let a puppy sleep in the bed with you no matter how much it cries.

If you do let the puppy sleep in the bed with you don't get mad if it decides to pee or even worse.

When you are on your way outside, DON'T STOP FOR ANYTHING. You stop it is going to squat.

Don't yell at it if it starts to squat, just makes it pee more and over a wider area.

Puppy would rather pee on your sock on the floor rather than a puppy pad.

Doggie pads are not for the puppy, they are there to give you a false sense of security when YOU go to sleep.

If the puppy uses the pad (or sock) rest assured that you will either be stepping in pee or worse when you get out of bed.

Don't be afraid to carry the puppy outside if it gives you "that look".

If you don't like getting up and getting dressed at 2am and 4am don't get a puppy.

If you don't watch the puppy go outside, it will make sure that you see it go inside.

Don't worry about the cat, he can take care of himself.

And finally, always remember that unlike big dogs, the puppy can't get an emergency drink out of the toilet.

Have a great Monday

Bored - You have me a might confused with your first line. I read it as: "We got a little porn a few weeks ago." Couldn't figure out the connection between Porn and Puppies.

(At my advanced age, my eyesight isn't what it used to be!!!)

So then I took a closer look - and read it as "pom" Now it makes sense! And Yes, just like SexyAries above me - it's all coming back.

Hmmmm - first time "under" Ms. Aries. Another milestone.

I am babysitting a 3 month old lab for my son for a while. And I couldn't agree more with every line you wrote (once I figured out we weren't talking about porn!).

Thanks for the laugh!

B2 out

Didn't think about the confusion factor but didn't know how to spell pomeranian (don't know if that is right). I have 2 golden labs both older than dirt but going strong. They were both the easy to train so can't explain why this little one is so hard. My in laws have one and he is 2 and still goes in the house. Not acceptable here. Anyway one of my Golden's was given to me when I came home from Saudi in 91 and has saved my life on more than one occasion. The other one I gave to my wife a few years later. She (not my wife the dog)seemed to be as dumb as a box of rocks for the first few years but is starting to come around and take over some things for the old guy. I can only hope that when I get to be 115 (hell over 50) I still have the same sex drive that he still has. I'll find a way to put a photo up of him. Take it easy.
