The Nudist Bet

I was listening to the radio a few years ago, and happened upon a discussion of a first encounter at a nudist colony. I was intrigued and listened eagerly as the talk went on.

"One rather shy character was saying that his main concern was that I on going to nudist colony, he would have an erection, and his fascination with opposite sex would be revealed. The other fellow was rather more confident, and stated that he needn't worry, you will never have an erection in this setting. In order to reinforce his confidence, he stated that he would give him a million dollars if he did have an erection. At the end of the day the shy guy was owed 3 million dollars."

I do wonder at the experience of a nudist colony. I have the same kind of reservations as the shy character and, dread the embarrassment of an erection. At the same time there still is that fascination with the loosening of inhibitions, that are supposed to flow from the shedding of clothes.

I am interested to know how people feel about the concept of nudist colonies and what they have to offer, and what they don't offer?

I've wondered at the experience as well. Although my imagined sources of embarrassment range from an erection to the opposite disposition - shrinkage, as well as making some faux pas with the opposite sex (or worse the same sex); e.g. taking too close a note of their genitals. But these have proven to be concerns of my youth, largely born of ignorance and inexperience with women in general. I am very comfortable with myself and routinely work naked around the home/office back in Ohio throughout the day. Furthermore, I can work naked around women without a thought to there presence (until they signal that it's time for a handjob, my mind is locked on the job at hand). By extension, I am guessing (never been to a nudist colony despite several invitations) that I would be as comfortable in that situation as the people present make it. I probably would have been far too nervous just 4-5 years ago when I still counted myself very shy with women. But until I try it, I won't know what my comfort level really will be.

In Austin we have the famed Hippie Hollow that, I presume, is still in existence to this day. While I love to walk around undressed in my home if noone else is home, I am not sure that I would welcome the opportunity to share my imperfections of my body with the "world". I am impressed by those people who have the absolute confidence and lack of those inhibitions.

In The Woodlands, close to Conroe, there is a shopping center that had statues placed on the roofline. There was an uproar from the residents that they were the naked statues and, as a result, the shopping center had to put fig leaves on the statues. I thought it was taking it way too far as these statues were a work of art (1) and (2) were on a roofline and one would have to be with eagle eyes to really detect that the genital was showing. Oh, well.

While Europeans are known for their more widely acceptance of the nudity (beaches, tv, commercials, etc), I think Americans are becoming more accepting in general (slowly but surely)!!

Eventhough I have my reservations in being at a nudist colony, I have been brazen enough to have sex on a beach, at a park (with and without ducks around), under the stars, etc.

A bit ironical isn't it????

I wonder how many Hippie Hollows there may be ... a nudist site in Appalachian Ohio near Athens is an old abandoned quarry known to one and all as Hippie Hollow.

tamethytension, I never thought that I would be able to be naked in front of a woman, but when I had my first sexual experience that all went out the window. I guess I agree with you that you never know till you try.

My experiences of nudist type beaches has been limited, but the few that I have seen have had too few a number of super models. Just to say that the average person I saw was very average. I guess it is a comfort level thing.

I think my point with the whole story was to illustrate how discomforting it can be to have people now how much you are enjoying the experience and the type of enjoyment it is.

Txrose4uNTX I know that you are more comfortable than I, at this point, with your body image. I value your input.
