Is there such a thing as....???

... a goth hippie? Or would that be "gothippie"? lol

I have stated more than once that I am the personification of "eclectic", that I am "multifaceted", that I embrace and express polarities, that I am an enigma, etc, etc. I must admit, I do love dabbling in dualities. I think it comes from my spiritual beliefs; I follow the Goddess, who throughout history has represented and encompassed all aspects of human nature. She is creator and destroyer, hunter and protector, dark and light. Anyway, I'm rambling...

The other day at work, my boss and I got on a conversation about hippies; beliefs, stereotypes, etc. I told him that in many ways, I could be called a hippie. He looked at me strangely (I am currently expressing my goth side, with black streaked hair, dark clothes, heavy black makeup, wristbands with "fuck you" slogans on them, etc) and said "Yeah, right, a goth hippie." My immediate reaction was why not? He thinks its impossible, that two such opposites cannot co-exist within one person.

What do you all think?

Sounds a little cross-generational, but otherwise reasonable to me...

My xgf thought that I'd been a hippie in my time, but that was mostly because she was so conservative that anything else was considered hippie... She always thought that she was to the center of the scale, when in face she was far right.. That gave her a poor perspective on anything to the left.

What would be the philisophical stance of the typical goth, if there were such a thing. I guess I don't know enough about what a goth is to decide if it's mergable with what my ideas of what hippies were.

The test of a first-rate intelligence is the ability to hold two opposed ideas in the mind at the same time, and still retain the ability to function. F. Scott Fitzgerald

Milady It is good to see you writing again. At the heart of the matter we are all a complex blend of contradictory beliefs. To many allow the cultural pressure to suppress those oxymoronic tendencies that allow them to be fully who they are at any given time and place. Rock on
