There are two absolutely gorgeous dogwood trees in my front yard. They bloomed 2 weeks ago and are beginning to show their age. By early May, the blooms will be gone. From then until mid March of next year, these trees will be totally bare of any color.
With Easter so late this year, they will barely make it to Sunday before all the petals have fallen.
But, when they start to bloom, those petals are so blindingly white it lights up my entire yard. It is amazing that they are as popular as they are here in the South, considering how short their yearly bloom cycle is. In Atlanta, there is even an annual “Dogwood Festival” to celebrate the blooming of the trees.
Yet, after a short month of beauty, they will be gone for another year. It seems they are too beautiful to last more than a few weeks. Almost like it would diminish how glorious they are if they stayed around longer than those few short weeks.

This may sound silly but your dogwood doesn't have any leaves or only a few? I find beauty in their shapes after the flowers have dropped and the leaves are out.

Not really any leaves at all....when I moved here (in the spring) by late summer I thought they were dead. But next spring there they were again.
