My Favorite Poem of All Time

I found this poem a couple years ago...from then on it has been my favorite....I like to read it on days when I'm down and feeling sorry for myself. It always lifts me back up and reminds me of the most important thing in life. Hence my favorite quote:

Judge your life not by how much you have loved, but by how much you are loved.

And now for the main event!

Life Is A Miracle

Life is a miracle
don't let it slip away,
Open your heart to others
give of yourself each day.

See the beauty in everyone
regardless of where they've been,
Some have a difficult journey
and really need a friend.

Share your gifts and talents
listen with your heart.
Do the things you dream about
but don't have time to start.

Pick a bouquet of flowers
show someone that you care,
Be gracious and forgiving
life is never fair.

Hold on to your courage
you may need it down the road,
We all have a cross to bear
it could be a heavy load.

If you practice all these things
no matter where you roam,
You may find both sun and rain
but you'll never feel alone!

I go a step further.I dont judge my life.It makes it easier to accept others and to accept who you truely are.By judging you are inherantly comparing.By comparing you discriminate against those that cant be compared for whatever reason. They then become outsiders. Those that dont judge will find it easier to accept.Acceptance and tolerance are the way forward.
That doesnt mean you have to like or agree with everyone.Merely that you wont hold it against them. This is of course an ideal. This world is not.

What makes me laugh and helps me to keep things in perspective is a little gem i found in high school while looking for something to use as my practice Prose piece for the UIL competition (to see who was going to represent our school at the competition).

Alexander and the terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day!
by: Judith Viorst

If you could find it i'm sure it would tickle ya (you have girls but they're still kids). She has quite a few adventures staring Alexander and some of her other children. You have pretty good taste in poetry too says the poetically inept village idiot.
