God Bless Texas

So I know y'all been waiting for me to give you the scoop on my last weekend with travelingintexas Travelingintexas. People Magazine called and wanted an unauthorized expose, and they wanted an exclusive, but I said to hell with that... I'd rather blog it myself. I know inquiring minds want to know... So this post is a testimonial, from the heart.

TravelinginTexas, Blog God: The Myth, The Man, The Legend?

Or rather:

TravelinginTexas: The ADD-afflicted, country music singing, Dr. Pepper drinking, lighter-losing, wireless internet addicted, handsome bastard with a heart of gold.

I’m the only woman to have had the pleasure of observing this creature in his natural habitat, since for once he wasn’t the one who was traveling. So of course, I feel obligated to share my findings with the ever-so-scientific community here.

He’s hard to miss in a crowd, a towering wall of a man… TravelinginTexas spotted me as I rounded the corner coming through baggage claim. He greeted me with a shy smile, and that soft, sexy drawl.

Amy: Where’s your hat?
Trav: Oh, no. I’m not much of a cowboy.
Amy: *thinks as she jumps in the pickup*
Damn. Because I was thinking about saving a horse…

The traffic is light, and the conversation is an easy transition from text to voice. He flips through stations on the radio… country, country, gospel, county, country, latin, country… He finds something he likes and sings along. He has an amazing clear, sweet, voice… I could picture him at the mic, playing the guitar in a bar somewhere. Though he’d be the only one in there sober, I think. He doesn’t drink.

Amy: Trav. This is bullshit. There’s no tumbleweeds, no big cactuses, no nothing. What the hell kind of Texas is this we’re in anyway!?!
Trav: Cacti.
Amy: Whatever, cacti
Trav: *points* There’s some cows.
Amy: Oohhh, cows! Yay! *Claps hands, now satisfied.*

I look out the car window and I see him out of the corner of my eye, searching for something, in apparent distress. He finally locates his missing lighter in the bottom of the cupholder, and cracks open a pack of Marlboro Ultra Light 100’s.

Trav: Mind if I smoke?
Amy: *fake Texas accent* It’s your truck, honey, you go on and do as you please.
Trav: *smirks* You practicin’?
Amy: Sure am.
Trav *shakes head and smiles*
Amy: Eww Trav, don’t you have anything other than country on this radio?
Trav: Oh come on yankee girl, you know like this music.
Amy: Ugh, never. I would be mocked at home for listening, although it is getting more popular in New York. I think there are two country radio stations now.
Trav: I'll have you liking it just fine by the time you leave.
Amy: Ugh. Never.

And so went the weekend... Like old friends who had known each other for years, we just hung out all weekend... had so much fun. We went to Austin which I think is the NY-iest town in Texas. We spent time in San Antonio, which was beautiful... the Riverwalk was all lit up for Christmas... amazing. Seriously a beautiful sight. All the big beautiful trees draping over the river with streams of multi-colored lights pouring down. It was much fun for "Blonde" and "ADD": "oooh.. look, pretty colors... what were you saying?" LOL (a frequent dialog that night) However, some of the best times were just chilling in our hotel room, talking about this and that, chatting with our mutual friends online. Just having his company was enough for me regardless of what we were doing... he's such a warm and caring person, easy to talk to, quickwitted and smart.

He's a smart girl's dream for sure. It took me a few days to complete this post. Mostly because I hated to post about our visit as being over, writing about it in the past sense... a little mourning on my part I think. It's always hard to be away from those who are important in your life. Friends, family, lovers, husbands, wives, children... and the holidays magnify their absence in your life. To have had some time to spend with a friend was so valuable. I hope that you all have that opportunity over the holidays... to ditch the shopping and the cooking and all the craziness, and just appreciate the people you are lucky enough to have in your life, to remember what is really important.

What can I say about Trav? If I was single, I'd kidnap him and make him marry me instead of MZHuny (hehe). He's an amazing guy. Standing next to him makes me feel small, but he makes me feel important in every other way. He's a true friend, a true gentleman. I'm happy I was fortunate enough to get to know Trav. I love him, and I send him mental hugs every day. I know that broken road will bring me back to Texas one day... and I can't wait.

Miss Me Baby, but you know I'm always right here.

P.S. And he was right, I don't quite hate country music anymore...

She left out part of it...

Trav: *points* There’s some cows.
Amy: Oohhh, cows! Yay! *Claps hands, now satisfied.*
Amy: But who watches the cows? They can't stay in the field all day alone.

Have tongue, will use it. Repeatedly.

Sounds like you both had a great time. Pretty cool.

If you're looking for "cacti", head to Phoenix. They have them 20 feet tall.

Yeah Daph... I know! I still don't understand how nobody even looks after all those cows ... They could get cownapped and nobody would even know they are missing!

Seems strange to me...

Is that an offer? I'm sooo there. I haven't been to Phoenix yet (other than airport layovers).

We'd tear up the town for sure...

HAHA cybering the chick who is in your hotel room... now THAT is the ultimate sign you're completely internet addicted. (Notice how I didn't confirm nor deny any basis to that rumor.)

The only thing bad about chatting with someone online who is in the same room as you is that they'll rat you out to the rest of the room if you put "LOL" and you really didn't laugh... hehe

Yes and the cat's out of the bag...Trav's the natural blonde. He dyes his hair brown to look more intelligent. (He should probably dye it darker)

Yes! Actually I was recording it all for "Bloggers Gone Wild".

LOL don't get nervous, I'm just kidding. I just have an excellent memory for certain things, especially conversations.

I'm happy you liked my post... it was from the heart

DT- I know... he's going to make a mes when he finally pops. I'll call Tiller... the firemen might need to help with the rescue efforts.

They do have cows here, but they all live on farms here, they all have homes. Those cows I saw in Texas were just hanging out in some random fenced plot by the highway with no farm, no house, no nothing! Not even like a little cow office! It's just asking for trouble!

That's it, I'm going to go down to Texas and steal me some cows and sell them on the black market...

*giggling* i LOVE you for this post. When I moved from NYC to the midwest people thought it was hillarious that I was excited to see pigs. Glad I'm not the only silly one. I suppose it would be like taking a farm boy to the big city& watching him crane his neck at all the tall buildings.
'cept who knew pigs were so big...and smelly...and ugly. I thought ALL pigs were cute n pink like Arnold Ziffel.

welcome back

Soooooooooo happy you had a great time! Texas is awesome in my mind and if I thought I could get away with it, I'd be moving to Austin any day now. Truth is, I've been having those thoughts for about 8 years now! They say that *all roads lead to Texas* {=}

Just a little food for thought.............
If you really want to be happy, nobody can stop you...

Sent over by Trav. Guess he knew you would be giving him a glowing report! Otherwise, he wouldn't have mentioned a word! We have cows in Missouri too, but they don't have those "long horns". What's the deal on that anyway?
