Rings

So, what is your favorite kind of ring? Cock? Tongue? Wedding? Nipple?

Jewelry - whether worn or inserted, metal or rubber, visible or hidden - has long been a status symbol in Western cultures. It shows social position, posession, wealth, even in some cases education. There seems an almost unhealthy expectation that the gift of jewelry will get you out of any trouble you have gotten into. (Kobe, you are a bad, bad, bad man. Never without the girl's permission, a**hole.) Why is that?

Now, I'm not saying that I don't like a bit of the bling myself now and then. I just don't understand why so much importance is placed on such small pieces of metal...

As you say, jewelry represents status.
What Kobe did was bad. And money talks. Is it too easy to say that that is just our society? He was trying to buy his way out of a hole, so to speak.

Do you know why seamen [He said "seamen," heh heh heh!] used to wear a gold earring? It was a kind of life insurance. If the ship went down, and their body washed up on shore, the earring ensured payment to whomever found the body for a Christian burial.
