Triumph Over Her Fears

Today was a red letter day in my life and in the life of my daughter. I had to set our feelings down in writing.

Triumph Over Her Fears

Red boots and light blue ski tips
She’s headed up the chair lift
Her eyes are lightly tearing
Because of what she’s fearing

Three years ago she was fearless
As a ski racer, a young lioness
In her first year of racing
Freshman accomplishments amazing

Competing with her teammates
Sluicing through the slalom gates
Chasing the time she had to beat
Qualifying for the state meet

She got there on her rec skis
No fancy racing equipment
No fancy racing outfit
Just pride, skill and fearlessness

Practicing for the conference meet
She worked with her new pro skis
She was carving curves with perfection
But the mogul field beckoned

In an instant it was over
A crash put her in a coma
To the trauma center she was taken
Would she ever awaken?

For eight long days we waited
The brain swelling abated
Her hand, it was now squeezing
The hands of those she needed

Her rehab, it was so painful
Her efforts at first were feeble
Her goals had to be reset
To walk again wasn’t a sure bet

But on and on she persisted
Her doctor’s limits she tested
Till again she was walking
Intelligently talking

For three long years she’s rehabbed
To her future she’s committed
But one last test was forming
Fearlessness restoring?

Today she faced her demon
On Breckenridge she was skiing
Her skills, they came back to her
The joy of speed fulfilled her

She left the hill completed
Emotionally and physically exhausted
But there’s a glow in her this evening
And the glow is not deceiving

This womyn was going places
Maturity and drive have an impact
But the lioness has now recovered
With insight experience discovered

A great kid amongst us
We nearly lost her in a heartbeat
But today she’s back with us
Her recovery now complete!

Love you kid.

Tom, what a story! I can't imagine the effort in involved in what she has done. I just went back through your blog, and discovered some of my favorite songs. I'm not that big of a country western fan, but being a former Texas girl, I've seen Willie Nelson 4 times, and love all his songs. I also love the Garth Brooks song about missing the dance. I also wanted to recommend the movie "Duets" if you haven't already seen it. It's a movie about karaoke, and relationships. GReat music. Huey Lewis and Gwyeth Paltrow star. Last but not least, good luck on your search here on AdultFriendFinder. I know it isn't easy starting over again at our age, but hang in there. I met a really great guy here to become friends with benefits, and joined a great group (Sauk County) where I've made a lot of friends. After all, great friends can help you make it through the night also.
