Cloud Ostrich

Cloud Ostrich

Originally a painting done in acrylics on a 16"x12" masonite panel and given to my mother at Christmas in 1992. All of my gifts that year were paintings.

I also could not resist but to now make some twisted variations on it with Kai's Power Tools. Two of which can be seen below the original which rides on top.

I think it's great when people somehow make their own greeting cards and/or gifts even if they think they've got no "talent". It's always so much better to get a card that is in some way put together by the person giving it. And that personal and more thoughtful touch always cleanly blows anything Hallmark could ever come up with.

But when I stop and think about that Hallmark is not really that high of a mark to attempt to surpass.

I'll still sort of be on hiatus for a few days but I felt an urge to contribute this before I make another attempt at somewhat emerging around here.

Hmmm,

Your usage of the term "slop" is quite interesting in this context. I guess Pirates supposedly used to use their own blood to write their letters with. If they could write at all.

With where my mind has gone with this might require that the document or peice of celebratory greeting card artwork "slopped" together might actually rerquire one of those detective style forensic black lights to properly view.

This leads me to recall, reminisce, recollect and nostalgically ponder the utter bafflement I first experienced in the mid 80's when some guy who knew I had just dated a particular girl asked about what may have gone on on that date and rattled off a few different colloquial slang-like vernacularisms of acts that may have potentially taken place.

One of those options asked about of course being "slop". Once I discovered from that guy what he meant by using that term it did not appeal to me enough for me to use it regularly for anything other than some form of joke.

Associative leap - ZZ Slop (they did have that old tune appropriately titled Pearl Necklace BTW)

Thanks whisper. This was not one of my more popular pictures but I'm glad you liked it.

So this Ostrich went to heaven?
What provoked you to paint an Ostrich...I'm curious

I made the painting with my mother in mind and I knew that she always had a thing for birds so that's what led me to actually choose an ostrich as my subject matter. I could have chosen many other types of birds but I had a good reference shot of an ostrich in motion and I liked the fact that it was not sitting still. The clouds part is more included as "surrealiastic space filler" than anthing overtly or intentionally symbolic.
