One The Wings Of Love: A Tribute To a Wonderful Friend

Monday it will be 5 years since the World Trade Center, A field in Shanksville, PA and The Pentagon in our Nation's Capital became a killing field for thousands of American men and women. My heart and my prayers will be with those families who are still asking "Why" and still trying to make sense of a day that was so senseless.
But my heart will also be with one particular person's family and that is my diva Uncle on her father's side of the family. Her Uncle was the only person to acknowledge my daughter's existance after the trail that sent her father to a life of imprisonment.
Her Uncle was a decorated career Military man, who served his country proudly and loved his job. It was his passion. But at the age of 41 he was killed along with all the other's who died on Sept. 11, 2001. He left behind his wife of 20 years and 3 children.
When my ex's trail was over, her Uncle approached me and told me not all of the men in my family are monsters and I would be honored to help in anyway I can with your daughter. And he lived up to his word. Once a month he would send a check to help buy diapers and formula and clothes and all the things a growing baby needs.
At Christmas time he sent me a gift and I have it still to this day although I don't wear it anymore because I don't want to lose it. But it is a pendant with a mother and child on a gold chain.
In the package was a letter that said wear this and remember that when you feel most alone I am there watching over you. Your doing good.
Whenever I feel most alone I get that pendant out of it's safe place and think about him and how much he did for me and my daughter. I sometimes feel angry too because he didn't have to die. And with all that is happening in the world today I wonder what he would say.
My guess is he would be standing on the front lines of battle somewhere overseas hunting down those responsible and bringing them to justice.
He believed in his Country and Died Defending It. May he rest in peace and know that he is Loved by many and missed by a lot more. Rest In Peace Uncle James.

What a beautiful and touching tribute! Uncle James was truly an extraordinary person. You, your daughter, his family and those who knew him were truly blessed to have him in your lives. I'm sorry about his senseless death and the senseless deaths of all the other victims of the terrorists.

Thanks for sharing your memories of this wonderful person!

Hugs

This is a beautiful and touching tribute Twin! So many lost so much that day....we will never be the same. Treasure those good memories...and never forget the words he told you "You're doing good". You still are.

What a wonderful and thoughtful man. Clearly his kindness made a lasting impression upon you. I am glad he was good to you and the baby Diva, Juice. I know his support meant a lot. I am sorry for this loss. I will keep he and his wife and children in my thoughts and prayers today, tomorrow, and many days to come.
