Anecdote

When his Cambridge college began the construction of a chapel in 1961, the biologist Francis Crick, famed for his discovery of the helical structure of DNA, promptly resigned. Shortly thereafter, he received a conciliatory letter from Winston Churchill, who hastened to point out that the mere existence of a chapel should be of no consequence, as no one would be required to enter it against his will.

Churchill soon received a reply from Crick, who enclosed ten guineas, proposed the construction of a brothel, and hastened to point out that its mere existence should be of no consequence, as no one would be required to enter it against his will.
