Island Adventure!

Not an original - but it has been years since I heard it...

There was a young rabbi who boarded a ship for a journey. Several days into the journey, the weather turned foul, and the ship was tossed about on the waves until it broke into pieces. The rabbi grabbed a passing trunk, ad passed out…

When he awoke, he was lying on a beach. He heard a sound from down the beach and turned to see several small people walking towards him, laughing and carrying flowers. They stopped, looked him over, and carried him back to their village.

That night they had a great feast to honor their unexpected guest. When the whole village was seated around the fire, the chieftain spoke, “Honored guest: you are welcome here as long as you wish to stay. We are the Trids. We live happily here on this island, and we are at peace with most of our neighbors. Welcome.”

And so the rabbi stayed. He never forgot home, but he was very happy among the Trids.

One morning, he woke to hear an excited buzz in the air of the village. “What’s happening?” he asked one of his hosts. The villager answered, “You have seen how much the Trids love flowers; today the most beautiful flowers from the island will bloom up on the mountain.” So the rabbi joined the villagers as they began the climb up the great mountain.

But suddenly the villagers grew silent. The rabbi looked up to see a giant standing at the near edge of the flower field. As one, the villagers charged up the hill at the giant. He picked them up in twos and threes, then punted them back down to where the rabbi stood in shock.

Three times, four times the villagers charged…but always with the same result.

The rabbi grew more and more enraged. Finally, he charged up the hill toward the giant. When he stood at the feet of the gargantuan, he stopped, and looked up. The giant was ignoring him.

“If you are going to kick my friends down the hill, you’d just as well kick me too!”

The giant laughed and shook his head.

“Silly Rabbi, kicks are for Trids.”

Laugh, believe it or not I've never heard that one before and didn't see it coming. Good job.

Have tongue, will use it. Repeatedly.

Hardly an original, Hardly. I heard a variation of this in the boy scouts years ago.

Thanks for the reminder.
