Is Hiking so Difficult?

I sat at lunch enjoying the day. The sun was out, a gentle breeze lightly brushed my skin and stirred my hair around my face. There was a sense of peace as I watched the trees host a pair of Robins, the pair busily building their nest.

So many times I witnessed sights like this, or enjoyed the beauty of Nature. But it always seemed I was alone. "What if...." I thought to myself. "What if I started a group of fellow Nature lovers? People that would enjoy hiking and picnicing in the rich woodlands in the surrounding area?"

And so I started, and quickly became amazed at how difficult a task this seemed to be! After finally getting an interest group started, I was then further amazed at the people that responded with no intention of friendship or hiking, but looking for sex.

I reasoned to myself that perhaps this was the wrong environment for this type of activity. But then slowly I was contacted by and met a few people that seemed interested.

But then tonight I received a call from an irate wife of one of the gentlemen that had contacted me threatening to take me to court for 'dating' her husband. When the yelling and threats were over and the call ended, I sat reflecting on the way a person's mind could twist what was obvious.

There are a few people out there that are interested in enjoying the woodlands around us. There are a few like-minded folks that will meet to partake of the riches around us. I cannot change those that try to make the hiking group different, but I can go hiking with the very few that can be at peace with the day.

For those of you interested in a good, clean day-hike, check out the interest group. For those of you seeking quick sex, look elsewhere. I hope that this interest group truly does encourage and establish solid friendships with those that enjoy Nature and outdoor activites.

I look forward to our first hike Sunday. And what of the wife? Well, I invited her along too. Perhaps she will learn not to be so up tight and can find peace within the bounty of Nature.

I love hiking as well. My first extended hiking trip was just a little south of Ashville and Cherokee NC in the Smokies near Fontana Dam. But that was nearly 30 years ago. I was up there for 2 weeks camping along the trail as I went. My last trip was to Shenandoah National Park for a weekend trip. That was two years ago. I do love to hike, but only in the Mountains. Living on the sea shore has its disadvantages.

Hi Gryphon, I took a quick look at your group. I think its a great idea but if you really want your hikes to be a nonsexual affair think you should emphasize this in your groups header. Friendship and being out and about in nature sounds good to me.

The name of the site is FRIEND finder, not sex finder.
Not everyone is here for the sole purpose of sex.
If there were a group in my area interested in hiking, I would certainly be interested.

What part of wv will you be moving to?
If it's the eastern panhandle, we can go hiking on the AT or the c&o

I disbanded my group months ago. Lack of interest by others plus I decided that it wasn't really the lifestyle that appealed to me.

My group wasn't for hiking. My interest in hiking is just for the sake of hiking. Nothing more.
