Once upon a time............

The Village Idiot met the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. She was literate, sexy and very, very empathetic. She was politically active and involved in the arts. And she was single. He fell in love. He fell hard.

This woman was what every man looked for and desired. She was the Venus De Milo, the Mona Lisa, Helen of Troy.

The Village Idiot used every ounce of charm and patience that he possessed. He cooked incredible meals. He took the lady to the theatre, to movies, to the opera. He listened to problems and helped concoct solutions.

And he got to watch as she went out with losers and worse.

The sad fact was that the great love of the Village Idiots life did not love him. She liked him a lot, (she referred to him as a friend) but when he told her that she meant everything to him, she ran.

And over the course of the next year, phone calls were not returned, meetings were not met and gradually everything faded to black as the love of the Village Idiot's life exited stage left.

And the lesson of all of this is that love is cruel....it is fickle. While you cannot help falling in love, you cannot make anyone else fall in love back.

No.
the lesson is win some, lose some.
She will always occupy space in your brain rent-free but there are others like her.
Maybe even better...

There will always be women and men like you describe... unfortunately. I think the lesson is live and learn. Next time you'll see the signs before you've given your heart to one not worthy of it. There really are no words that will heal a broken heart. But we've all been there so maybe knowing you're among kinded spirits will help ease the pain...

I think we use the term love without fully understanding the full conotation of the word. It is so many different things. There is no one love of our lives. There is meant to be many, each unique, each teaching us valuable lessons. Lessons we will use later when we find the one love that we are meant to finish our days with.

Look at it this way, you learned valuable lessons from her. How to treat a lady. How to accept defeat like a gentleman. How to love from afar and unconditionaly since the love was unrequited. How to be unselfish. How to think of others. And most importantly, how to let go.

You're 'one' is out there darlin. Don't give up. Just look at the rest as chances to learn.

I sure wish there was some magic that could be done to take away the love I have for a certain someone who does not love me back. Forever here on out, others will be compared to him. He will make it very hard for me to be content with less. I suppose this might be good.

The pain of a broken heart proves you're still alive inside- you'll appreciate the next time love visits your soul, not taking it for granted. Take the experience and the good memories and leave the rest behind... there will always be someone else.

But somewhere, deep inside of my broken heart, I know that this was "the one".
