Mathematize me

I have my occupation listed as "mathematician" which is very true. I have a master's in mathematics and worked really fuckin' hard to get it.

But what concerns people is what exactly does a mathematician do? Do we run around looking for people who need help counting their change? Do we hang out in little cliques and talk about Copernicus, Sir Isaac Newton and Euclid? Do I sweet talk a woman in bed by whispering quantum mechanics softly in her ear or work out the surface area of her breast for her?

Mathematicians just mathematize - teach, work in the sciences etc. (But we don't become engineers.) Some people just don't comprehend that it is just a title, an honorific to be specific that is earned by a couple of years of school. There seems to be somewhat of a carnival geek stigma attached to the title. Perhaps a new "occupational title" is called for.

Any ideas?

Now what I would like to do with my master's is an entirely different story and will wait for another day.

Since I am among the mathematically challenged…I suggest Mathemagician

Mathemagician - I really like that. It has that hint of alchemy about it: like I can turn lead into gold or something.
