Making me happy

In keeping with the list blogging phenomenon, I had already posted a list of 11 things about me: 11 is just one better than 10 But it was more of a physical list than anything else.

So I decided, in the semi-stuperous state that I find myself, to write a list of the 10 things that make me truly happy.

*********************************************************************

1. Fishing for steelhead in January - preferably with a light snow falling. It's just so amazingly quiet in the Coast Range at that time of year.

2. Hearing from friends like Lil, Sunney, Jay, LMP, Silly, et al. It is always great to come home and see what they have to say. It tells me that I am not alone.

3. Pajama day: a time honoured tradition when both girls are over. Sometimes it is just good to have a day when nothing gets done other than laying around and watching tv in one's jammies.

4. Playing soccer in the mud - I have grooved on this since I was 5 years old. I always excelled in games that were played in driving rain and thick, heavy surfaces. There is nothing better than finishing a game coated from head to toe in mud. Rugby served the same purpose for me.

5. Getting a massage - I love to be touched and that definitely serves the purpose. Getting a shave would be a very close second to this.

6. Building a model kit or a model soldier. Again this is a throwback to my childhood and the concentration I use just seems to absorb all of the negative energy in my body.

7. Watching "ringer" play soccer. Not only is she very good, but she really loves the game and it shows. She celebrates the game with her team and even with the opposition. It should be illegal for a 15 year old to have that much talent and drive.

8. Fishing with "bubba". I have reached a point with "ringer" where I cannot teach her anymore soccer skills and it saddens me, but I have plenty to teach "bubba" about fishing and hunting. This will be her first year of chinook fishing. If history repeats, she will undoubtedly land one in the 60 lb region.

9. James Bond movies: they are the ultimate guy flicks. Sean Connery, Pierce Brosnan, Timothy Dalton, George Lazenby and even Roger Moore - it doesn't matter who is Bond. It is the girls and the cars that matter: especially the Aston in the last movie.

10. Eating a good home-cooked meal. It does not need to be elaborate (but it can be) and it doesn't even need to be eaten at the dining table. But eating a meal that I cooked with really fresh ingredients that are in season is a sensory treat. Right now, fresh salmon is coming into season (hopefully [blog lickmepretty] tried and enjoyed the salmon recipe that I sent in response to a request).

****************************************************************************

It would seem that I am pretty much a visceral kind of person. I like the simple things and most of what I like does not involve vast amounts of folding (cash) so I get to treat myself to these pleasures on a regular basis.

After all, if I don't make myself happy who will?

Pajama Day?

You do realize that we're having a pillow fight at the Blogger's Convention Pillow Fight, don't you?

If you give me a massage, I'll return the favor (but where is it you want the shave? ) lol

Hi playful, having a little fun with the AdultFriendFinder site that they run off of a commodore 64 were we? As much as I would love to be in Chicago for the convention, with the plant closing in December, I will be unable to secure the necessary time off to make the trip.

It seems that it is very important to my employers that I work my arse off to put myself out of work. This will be making another list I am formulating that will be the 10 things that really piss me off.

Okay, so I'm just thinking about you in the mud right now. Pervy pervy.

lmp, unfortunately I am in a holding pattern right now until we get some rain. That's why it was so great on Friday when it began to rain - howver it was nothing more than the weather equivalent of a titty tease and it is back to sunny and warm.

This is really bad as I always fish for salmon on my birthday and for the second year in a row I might be SOL.

silly, I don't think that you have steelhead on the east coast. It is an ocean running rainbow trout and they het the rivers here in mid-winter and mid-summer.

The winter run is the special run. You are out in sub-zero temperatures and the line has ice on it and the reel freezes. There is often ice on the side of the river and it can be very dangerous if you do not know the area you are fishing.

But the reward is fishing for the most perfect fish in pristine conditions. The fish are big and shiney and they jump endlessly. And there is no-one around to watch. It is sublime.

playful, the question should be "where would you like to shave?"

Sultry, the most improtant thing that I have learned is that no-one will take care of me any better than I will. Believe it or not, it has taken a very long time to learn that.
