Dain Bramage

I am sitting here with a splitting headache. I should be asleep right now but, concussions are fickle this way, I am wide awake. I also have seven staples in the side of my head.

It seems, according to "ringer", I got smashed in the side of the head by the head of another player last night. It's still a bit hazy at this point. I know it was getting on towards the end of the game so it would be about 11:45 when I got hurt.

I was informed that I went to head the ball and one of the defenders came in at full speed and headed me. (According to my 11 year old "dude, it was so cool, you could hear it everywhere".) The other player went down and everyone came over to see how bad he was hurt. (Fortunately, he was just stunned. Smashing heads with someone with Paddy blood can have serious consequences.) I walked away and just thought I was going to have a lump on the side of my head.

My daughter and one of the other ladies on our team came over and first words out of the mouth of my 15 year old were "fuckin' hell, dad, you're bleeding like a stuck pig. There's claret (blood) everywhere." Second thing she said was "Cool, I get to drive your truck to the hospital".

So 8 hours later, I have staples and I had to get shots and I am wide awake. Of course, I will spend the next couple of weeks wanting to go to sleep at strange times and be wide awake at all the wrong times. This is my fifth concussion from soccer so I know what to expect.

Of course, it also means that I can read more blogs.

It means you need a vacation to FL to be properly cared for by nurse Sunney. *wicked giggle*

Seriously, I hope it heals okay and that you are spared agonizing headaches. Your daughter rocks.

Awww too bad I can't kiss it better. Of course living with a teenaged girl myself, I know that getting to drive was the best part of the whole thing. BTW Who won?

Sunney, a Florida vacaion would indeed be a wonderful thing and being given a sponge bath by Nurse Sunney would be a treat in and of itself.

Hi Minx, the fact that she got to drive the truck to and from the hospital, and again today, made my injury completely worthwhile to my daughter. We were leading 17-5 when I got hurt. I don't know what the final score was - but I am pretty sure we won.

OMG, I am SO sorry!
This is all my fault.
How can I ever atone?

Hi Lil, good to hear from you again. That 5 concussions is over a 35 year playing career so that seems fairly reasonable. 4 of the concussions were from clashes of heads .... and 1 was from not watching where I was going and running into the goalpost.

Hi Jay, how is school going? I miss you.

Actually, I am having a blast playing football again - especially with my daughter on the team. It's never a dull moment with her around.

Now as for the atonement.........Sunney wants to do the nursing which means a spongebath. That must mean a good massage from you. Now all I need is a haircut from Silly since I have a big arse shaved area on the side of my head.

You will also be pleased to know that my daughter is already planning on going into sports medicine. Please come back and visit more often, I am sure that I am not the only person who misses you.

Hi honni (that just sounds so right) there are certain unspoken rules in the soccer world and smacking heads with someone with Irish blood is one of them. Unfortunately, it was the Irish blood that ws spilled - although the other guy was still trying to remember his name when we were sitting on the bench together getting treatment.

Hi playful, and the 11 year old was "kind" enough to call my mum and dad and tell them. First words out of my dad were "I thought you gave that shit up, boyo". My mum said "nevermind, a nice cup of tea will make you feel so much better". And actually, it did.
