Broken hearted dad

My youngest daughter has broken my heart. She doesn't want any toys for Christmas. She is too old for them (she says). I love toy shopping. I am a great toy shopper. I buy the crap that your mother always said you'd break, or you wouldn't play with. Remember your mum saying "it won't last 5 minutes". That's the stuff I bought for the girls.

The secret to going toy shopping is easy: two margueritas or long island iced teas. Punctuate the day with plenty of other stops to remove all inhibitions and you will have a most impressive haul of toys at the end of the day. You just won't recollect how you actually bought them.

My parents were not good toy shoppers. I actually got a microscope for Christmas one year. My mum always gives stuff like gold toe socks and handkerchiefs. Perhaps she needs a couple of margueritas before Christmas shopping.

My brother had a kit with a microscope, a fish, frog, and starfish in bags of formaldehyde and some prepared slides of spores and stuff.
I must have been seven or eightI loved it. In my freezer now is an owl pellet.
This is similar to a cat hairball but it has the bones of the owl's last meals in it. I wish I had someone who would enjoy dissecting it with me.

I also like toys. All kinds, not just the adult ones.
I will not grow up and no alcohol is needed.

And you're saying there's something wrong with the microscope?? *giggle* Yeah, I had that kit too, and the chemistry - make your own bubble gum and root beer kit. You can call me Super Nerd.

greeneyes, you know that kids sit around and talk all about the kind of stuff we buy. I got a microscope and my best friend got a race track set. Yeah, sure, he was always over playing with the microscope!

I am a world class barbie doll shopper as my youngest daughter loves barbies. I may still buy her some barbie stuff this year. My oldest has never been a barbie girl.

jay, I love toys and I have some of my own. I have collected toy soldiers since I was 7 years old. The only toy I have never really desired to own is a train set. I was just not a train set kind of guy.

sunney, at least my mum never got me the chemistry set. I did, however, get a telescope. That got taken away when my mate Michael and I were caught watching the neighbours through it.

lmp, and what kind of toys are you buying? Do you need to be talking more to sunney on this? I think there is going to be a battery shortage in Florida this month after her shopping spree last week.

Ok, the one Christmas my brother and I got a microscope AND chemistry lab we were the hit of the neighborhood. We mixed all the chemicals together ... it made this tar-like substance that we decided to use in the court, writing our names. It was still there years later.

I LOVE toy shopping and miss my girls being small again. However, what I've done to curb my toy buying habit is the Tree of Love ... those trees with cards on them for kids who need things. I always get one boy tag and one girl tag. Then, I can satisfy my toy urge.
