Better than a designated driver

Last night, I decided to head down the pub for a pint after watching some friends play football.

The coach decided to really tie one on and he was pissed as a parrot*. He had driven down to the bar and was threatening to drive home. (Actually, it was more the slurring, drooling, stumbling fighting with his keys type of thing.)

Drastic action was required. Getting the keys would probably end in bloodshed. And, since we all have a soccer player mentality, the drastic action taken was not to take his keys.

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

Since the coach lost his leg in an industrial accident ten years ago, our solution was to jump on him and take his artificial leg until the taxi we called got there. He was then put in the back of the cab and his leg went in the trunk. It's really hard to work the clutch without a leg.

*pissed as a parrot = drunk

And this is not the first time we had done this. It is not cruel. It is necessary. Better this than driving drunk. For all of the hard partying that my soccer mates and I have done - and we have drunk several cities dry, no-one has been DUId and no-one has ever been injured.

We might be crazy but we are not stupid. We are best friends and we all care about each other way too much to not stop someone from getting hurt. We also paid for the cab for the coach.
