An Anal Confession

I have to admit, that upon reflection and re-reading many of my posts, I may be just a tad anal. Now I do not mean this is in the ShayeDK tickling my prostate kind of way. I mean this more in an almost obsessive compulsive kind of way.

I went back and reviewed some of my post and I had admitted my fascination with vacuuming the carpet so that it looks like freshly cut grass. In fact, this weekend I was watching a soccer match on the television from White Hart Lane in London and the grass had this fantastic plaid pattern mowed into it and I found myself thinking how cool that would look in my dining room: now to figure out how to accomplish it.

All of my DVDs, CDs and X-Box games are filed alphabetically. I do not go to the lengths of having movies separated by drama, comedy, family, etc. That would just be plain wrong.

Perhaps the worst example of my anal nature is in my clothes drawers. There is a drawer for white, grey and black t-shirts and a separate drawer for colored t-shirts. They are then sub-divided in their drawer so that I have a stack of red, a stack of blue, a stack of orange and yellow (and so on). T-shirts have to be folded a certain way as soon as the dryer stops so that they are not all mis-creased.

My sock drawer is much the same with dress socks not allowed to mingle with their more plebeian cousins, the athletic socks. Athletic socks are all sorted by size and are laid in rows in the drawer. My underwear drawer is set out much the same way. PLEASE NOTE THAT AT NO TIME HAVE I SAID THAT I IRON MY UNDERWEAR OR SOCKS: THIS IS NOT TRUE.

When I clean, I go for broke. (And yes, my bathroom cleaning supplies are kept separate from the furniture cleaning supplies.) I clean my bath tub at least once a week and the toilet is cleaned twice a week. I even have a schedule for chores that I stick too. The up side of this is that I do not have much to clean on the weekend.

My kitchen is also very anal. My herbs and spices have their own shelf and are kept in cooking groupings: Indian spices, Italian, French, etc. I have a shelf of oils and a shelf of hot sauces and vinegars. My pantry is lined out the same way. I have containers for my different flours and bulk items so that I can always find what I am looking for.

What got me to thinking about all of this was seeing the look on my assistant’s face when I had my desk all laid out with a red pen, a blue pen, a black pen and three pencils on the right side. She also marveled that there are no papers left on it at night. It is spotless. I only have work on my desk that I am currently working on. I do not lose papers or projects.

It is all about control. I feel in control of my environment. My environment is not controlling me. To my daughters, these quirks and foibles are a source of endless entertainment and teasing. However, to me, it is a case of a clean, organized home and a clean, organized life.

**************************************************************************************************

I also have to admit that I cannot do anything less than to the very best of my abilities. I refuse to half-arse anything. This demand that I make of myself will always have consequences that slice through my life.

So...darlin...ever seen that movie "Sleeping with the Enemy"? Frighteningly similar. (giggle)...Now I'm a virgo so I totally understand the whole "order" thing - but even I'm not that bad...

Waiting to see your answers to Shaye's questions....

I make mistakes, I am out of control & at times hard to handle. But if you can't handle me at my worst, then you sure as hell don't deserve me at my best. ~Marilyn

alright then,

#2 first - that one is easy - nobody touches my stuff. I fold all my shirts, socks and underwear. And since nobody else cooks in my kitchen......

#1 yes, it really bothers me when I am in a messy house, messy office or messy shop floor. A dirty shop floor at work really gets to me, I am always picking stuff up and sweeping up: even at the new job. I think my hatred of clutter is the number 1 reason I cannot shop at WalMart.

#3 I had to phone my mum on this one. She said "yes". Supposedly I was always very clean and organized: except for when I played soccer. It was like all the need for cleanliness and organization ended.

You remind me of someone I dated somewhat seriously a couple of years ago... he had to squeegee his damn shower tile AND the shower curtain every time, and wipe down the chrome facet, etc... by the time I finished "fixing" his shower after I was done, I needed another shower!! .... I used to mix up his clothes when he left before me for work and I had stayed at his place overnight, just to tease him... he thought it was annoying in a cute and funny way until he noticed in the airport one morning that he had on a "pair" of socks I had sabotaged, oops... one was navy blue and one was dark brown

Apparently the depth of depravity here is bottomless... don't you feel right at home?

I was once told that my need to be in control was because I felt so out of control.....so what do you feel out of control about...

Wow....you are anal and a control freak...organized is one thing...but you take it the limit...something you said that was interesting....you feel in control over your environment...so does that mean because you don't feel in control over the rest of your life...so you focus and obsess on the things you do? Hmmmmmm!!! Just thinking out loud....

kind thoughts,
Moonfire

Shaye, it would be very hard to date a slob. My ex was a complete slob and it drove me crazy.
