"Real Men Bake Cakes"

This was a headline recently in the Men's Style section in the esteemed Sunday Times. The article went on to go into detail of how the author wooed (his words, not mine) his wife with madeleines.

Later, the author, Heston Blumenthal, gave this sage piece of advice. "Every man should have a chocolate recipe up his sleeve." He then gave a recipe for chocolate tart. I am sure that it would suffice in a pinch.

Me, I am a chocolate souffle kind of guy. A chocolate chip cookie with homemade ice-cream kind of guy. And for winter this year...... chopped apples sauteed in butter and brown sugar with cinnamon and nutmeg. Again this is topped with ice cream.

So they actually pay people money to come up with this kind of stuff we do on here for free. Hmmmm, paging Mr. Murdoch, Rupert Murdoch to the front desk please......

jay, I usually use Granny Smiths (and a lot of butter). This is a particular favourite of my oldest daughter as she will not eat chocolate. What you get is almost an apple pie filling without the crust - top with ice cream or whipped cream and it is so good (and quick)

Hi sil, I do roasted pears stuffed with blue cheese at Thanksgiving every year. I'll have to go and find the brandied pears.

I have to have a lot of fruit desserts for my oldest daughter as she has very well defined dietary needs because of her athletic endeavours. She doesn't drink pop, or take in anything that contains caffeine. She also is very leery about white sugar and flour. Fruit is one of the treats she allows herself.
