Warning- red head under pressure

..aka why I am no longer a part of the catholic church

Ok I will admit religons probable done a lot of good in the world but I have a few problems with some of the things they do now. First of all they stopped using real wine for communion, personally I liked seeing the new preists get tipsy after they chugged the glass during benidiction. Secondly, most christian religons refer to non-christian religons as cults, well christianity is a cult in itself if you think about it. Then theres the cross thing, I think jesus would have a phobia of crosses but thats the symbol of the religon, gee I hope i get worshiped after someone nails me to a tree. Theres also something strange about the fact clergy people are not allowed to have sex, come on they need to get laid more than the rest of us. Also the big hats, ever notice in catholosism the bigger your hat is the more important you are? Its beyond me. One of the other things is that the vatican commanded that a nun no longer speak out in favor of gay rights because, well, the pope is a nazi. This last statment although highly amusing is also true, Ratzinger was a member of the nazi youth when he was growing up in germany and I have to wonder how much thats influenced his views and tolerance of others.....

.....but this is just some food for thought on a sunday afternoon

I am not completely sure about religion doing a lot of good in the world, but then again, I am slightly biased toward religion...

Although, as a direct result of organized religion, we have breathtaking works of art and architecture left in its wake. So, looking at it that way, I guess it isn't all bad.

However, I do know for a fact that religion hes certainly caused (or at least been part of the cause..) for the deaths of untold numbers of people throughout history (Jihads and Inquisitions, anyone...?)

Hehehe....speaking of Ratzinger, do you know what post he held before becoming Pope? He was the Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith.

Which is the direct decendent (after a couple of name changes) of the Sacred Congregation of the Universal Inquisition, having existed in some form - not necessarily by name - all the back to the 1300's.

So the head of the former office of the Inquisition is now the Pope.

Now isn't that a lovely thought.....

I am not a religious person nor do I believe the stories from the religious books. However, I do believe that it may have been started to keep the world from going into chaos. If you think about it, most people wouldn't give a hoot if they knew that there was no heaven or hell. A lot of people do "the right thing" because they don't want to go to hell. I am glad that there is religeon because I would hate to see the world without it.

I have to agree in some part with each of you. Organized religon was a way to control the masses of poor and give hope where little existed, but then they realized they could rob them as well, and the church became rich. Give me old fashion spiritualism, worship life and the spirits around us.
