First and Foremost
What is it about monogomy that makes us think we are safer?
Is life about pleasure and satisfaction?
I think if it weren't about those 2, then it most be about caring for others and communicating.
Sex can be about communicating and caring.

I have to say that sex is about communication yes, but not always about caring.
Sex can say so much. It can say that you care about someone. It can be fun. It can be nasty. It can be wild. It can be completely impersonal. It can be to fulfill a need. It can be 100% emotional. It can be angry. It can be sensuous. It can be absolutely erotic. It can be dirty. It can be silly. It can be dominating. It can be loving. It can be painful. It can be healing. It can be sad. It can sad. It can fearful. It can remorseful. It can needy. It can be tenative. It can be akward. It can be weird. It can be exciting. It can be dangerous. It can be naughty. It can be sneaky. It can be guilty. It can be wrong. It can be so right.
I think sex can communicate sometime better words can. I think sex is a language that every culture can understand no matter how old, or modern it is.
To address the thing you mentioned, Monogamy is not something that ever makes a couple feel safe. When someone is in a committed relationship, the thing that they fear the most is that their partner is cheating on them or is going to. When in a situation where another individual of the opposite sex is involved with your partner, you usually feel jealous, or threatened. Monogamy doesn't elicit feelings of safety. It elicits immediate feelings of insecurity and inadequacies. But having a partner makes you feel good. Not being alone makes you feel good about yourself. This is true. Self esteem is raised. Self worth is raised. But security is not.
That is my own little opinion, but as it is always pointed out. Opinion are like bottoms... Everybody's got one

Hey Sweet Darlin,|
Good to hear from you as well!
I definitely think sex can be different depending on the day and the mood that you are in.
Some days it can be used just as a release, a release of tensions, release of anxiety, or a release of pent up bodily fluids
Some days it CAN be about communicating. Communicating that you can give, communicating that you can recieve, communicating that you can listen, or communicating that you are in charge.
Other days, it isn't about sex. Other days it's about holding someone close.
I guess it all depends on what "thing" you want to communicate with someone and what "thing" you want them to communicate back.
