How do you think people will react, huh

I live in this beautiful country with sunny weather, nice beach’s, good food, and occasionally great hospitality, but still something smells under the surface.

Now the horny reader will properly think, "oh he just forgot to wash it this morning". No that is not the kind of blog I am writing here…get that out of your silly head please…

OK back to topic..

In this country when they talk about salaries, they talk about net income, after tax that is. So what is the normal salary here in Greece:

Technical or engineering work: 1200 ‒ 1800 euros 14 times pr. year
Secretary: 700 - 900 euros 14 times pr. year.
Normal factory worker: 900 euros 14 times pr. year
Unskilled worker: 700-800 euros 14 times pr. year
Hotel cleaning / room service: 650 ‒ 750 euros 14 times pr. year
Lowest legal salary: 580 euros 14 times pr. year

Now the "great" parliament is thinking about passing a law which will make I legal for the employers to keep us workers for up to 10 hours pr. day for up to 4 months pr year.

The extra time the workers do shall then be "paid back" with time off during periods with low work demands, 1 to 1 ratio, at the employer’s free choice. (Fat chance, will newer happen at private companies anyway)

So how do you think people react?….. Well I have been here seven months now and already lost count of the number times I walked to work due to strikes. Today there is another strike..

So I guess the question of the day is:

"How would you react if you were paid salaries as the above and then challenged with a law that would force you to work for up to 10 hours pr. day without real compensation."

Any comments on other work related issues or more questions is also welcome an WILL be answered, no matter how direct...

And to steal from another blogger on this site:

Yes papy...with the now opening hours you will be working your ass off. Saturday, Sunday ect….

Why do the government think that they can increase private spending by keeping the shops open? Give people some money to spend…it will work better….
