Awakening

Awakening a fire
too long left as embers
It burns hot and fast,
consuming all within it's wake.
Flames reaching out
enveloping you in their warmth
Heat spreading slowly
to engulf you in desire.
The longing, the yearning, the want
all working to fuel the flames.
The flames will die slowly
but the heat will remain.
The embers lay cloaked in ashes
Patiently awaiting the single breath
to awaken them again.

Very passionate...deep fires
smouldering desires... nice...
I hope you don't have to wait too long...

really liked the description of how even though the fire may go down and almost out, the heat and coals are still there to be reflamed at any time. Very nice. thats a great way to look at it.

Awesome poeticisms!

Although thematically slightly different (mostly in it's male perspective) I've always loved Elvis Costello's similar usage of "fire" terms in his mid 80's hit titled...

She's Not The Only Flame in Town

I know a girl
got my mind in a mess
I never heard her say
goodnight and God bless

She's not the only flame in town

and when we're alone
we never quarrel
I'm miles away
now here's the moral

she's not the only flame in town

chorus
she's not the only flame in town
she's got to stop thinking that I'm
carrying this torch around

I struck a match
and it lit up her face
we should have struck a match girl
to burn down the whole place

now you're not the only flame in town

but you blew hot and cold
turned my heart to a cinder
and with each passing day
you'd be less tender and more tinder

now you're not the only flame in town

chorus

saw your face in the fire
but it's so hard to remember
even an inferno
can cool down to an ember

now you're not the only flame
you're not the only flame
you're not the only flame in town

I also love the 6/8 shuffle type meter of the tune and the fact that Costello also worked a minor key "downer" version of JS Bach's well melody to 'Ode to Joy' into the "fade out" section at the ending.

One of my all time faves but haven't heard it on the radio since the summer of '83 or so. But I've got a soft spot in my heart for unknown underdogs like this.

Keep up the good work!

Corrections

I really meant to say that thematically this song differs from your verse in that it seems to be more about the end of a relationship from a guys perspective as opposed to the first kindlings and sustenance of a potentially new one as yours is.

the neglected word is now included in red...

I also love the 6/8 shuffle type meter of the tune and the fact that Costello also worked a minor key "downer" version of JS Bach's well known melody to 'Ode to Joy' into the "fade out" section at the ending.

I know you are a famous poet, so come on, tell me. Who are you really?

....beautifully said, I guess I never looked at it that way before. Thanks for the get-well wishes!
