Have you ever turned down $200?

This morning I woke up early for my daily morning chat with my girlfriend in Japan. We chatted a little bit, but she could tell something was wrong. I had woken up with a bad headache and I wasn't feeling all that great. She worries about me if I don't have enough sleep, so she insisted I get back to bed and rest some more. I did as she asked and I went back to bed. This was about 8:40 or so.

I woke up again around 11:45am and the headache was still there. Still pounding away. I made my self some coffee and considered taking some acetaminophen for it. However, I try not to take anything for a headache if I can help it. I drank 2 glasses of water and then had some coffee (I'm still drinking that first cup now, but it's almost gone) The headache seems to want to hang on though, and so I come to the part about the $200.

You see, I was supposed to go to a friend's house and work on her computer and her daughter's computer. Most likely I would have been offered some money for my troubles. Last time I worked on my friend's computer, she offered me $200. I really wasn't expecting anything, certainly not $200. I told her it was too much, and we settled on $100 instead. Unfortunately my repairs did not hold, and we had to undo everything I had worked on to get her running again. I offered to give back the money she paid, but she told me I should keep it as it was payment for my time.

So this morning I was anticipating going back, working a little harder on figuring out what was wrong with her computer and while I was there, also taking a look at her daughter's laptop. This headache had other plans, unfortunately. At 1pm I called and cancelled. I just wasn't feeling up to coming over. If it was flu related, I don't need to be passing this on to my friend and her daughter, who was planning on returning home tomorrow to her family and passing on whatever it was to them. I did what I could over the phone, but in the back of my mind, I couldn't help thinking that I had just turned down some potential extra cash I really could have used.

Maybe I shouldn't be thinking about that. But I just can't help it.

Money can be earned but can't buy good health.

That's true, except where health insurance and cold medicine is concerned. Thankfully, I am feeling a lot better now. 2 naps and a whole day later. >.<
