"It was the dawn of the third age of Mankind..."

Lately I've been hooked on Babylon 5. I've purchased the DVD sets for Seasons 1-4, the pilot movie "The Gathering (which also has "In the Beginning" on the other side of the disc, and "The Legend of the Rangers". I haven't had Cable TV for about 18 months now, so my entertainment has either been rented, purchased or downloaded. Babylon 5 is one of my guilty pleasures and I'm not afraid to admit that I am a junkie.

I still need to get Season 5, the movies and the Crusades boxed sets. But all of this takes money, and I was only able to get the recent boxed sets thanks to a nice Tax Refund this year. It'll probably be next spring before I complete the sets. But while all of this is 'interesting', why is it that I'm so hooked?

Great writing, intricate and multi-dimensional characters, great humor, good music, great special effects, and a world created to tell a story that seems realistic enough to draw you into it. Those are just a few of the reasons why I love this series. What is most interesting about it is the fact that the entire series is one gigantic arc that stretches from the pilot episode all the way through to the last episode. Each episode contains little nuggets of information, threads are connected everywhere like a spider's web. And to appreciate the core story, you really have to see every episode.

Nothing beats a night of watching B5 with a bowl of popcorn in my lap.
