Gramma DT?

Mood: Still numb.
Music: Enjoying the silence.

No, it hasn't sunk in yet. Sure, she'd taken numerous home-tests, but I refused to consider the reality until it was confirmed by an OB/GYN. We received the results yesterday. She's five weeks along. She held me as I cried uncontrollably, trying to feign happiness for her sake, feeling sheer fear from within, her words "it'll be ok" whispered quietly in my ear.

She was admitted to the hospital just before dinner as a precaution, her glucose elevated to a level requiring observation. Her iron is low. She'll spend time with a counselor this morning as another precaution. They'll have to assess her overall condition and adjust her medications accordingly. All-in-all, not so bad so far.

She called before bedtime to inform me they've decided to wait and marry after the baby is born to prevent additonal stress. Good idea. She's much more wise than I give her credit. Well, sometimes...

I heard the words "night Grandma" as she giggled and hung up the phone. "Grandma." The words played over and over in my mind. "Grandma?" The stereotypical visions running through my mind horrified me. I'm only 39! "Gramma DT?"

OH HELL NO!

Well, look at it this way, that baby will get to know her Nana better than I knew either of mine. You'll be young enough to teach her all sorts of things, share her childhood and watch her grow up as beautiful and wise as her mother and grandmother

Think of it this way, you will be a very young "granny" and you can always find a cool hip name to be called. But think of all the time you will have to enjoy this child grow up! Count the blessings sweetie, the cup is over flowing.

Hang tough on the road ahead sweetie.

Imagine how cool this kid is gonna be with her as a momma & you as a grandma!
ohhhh! idea!
I think we need a blogville contest! To come up with a cooler name than Grandma...something for the lil darling to call you that isnt so...errrr grandmaish.
My mother in law always insisted the kids call her Momma Rock (her name is Raquel) because 'grandma' sounded like a lil grey haired lady ... and she was no lil grey haired lady!

I agree with Sj.

My nephew was the first grandkid for my parents. He never called my mom grandma or anything like it. He was about 18 months old and just called her Sweetie. It stuck and that's what all the other grandkids called her.

Have tongue, will use it. Repeatedly.

*looking for silver lining*

Plenty of time to knit before artritis sets in.

You will have lots of time to share that you are energetic, fun and still willing to tilt the world on edge. What kid wouldn't want to party with that grandmother? When it comes time for loving names, Big D might work for you.

Just as you will be blessed by the baby, the baby will be blessed to have such a hip, cool grandma! I have no doubt you will fall in love the moment you lay eyes on your grandchild. The name he/she calls you won't matter, the laughter will. You put a smile on my face tonight when you described your daugther's giggles. She seems delightful. I wish you all the best!

Grandma Trouble? No that won't work. I'll have to come back when I have a better idea.

*thinks how cool it would be to have a grandmother who listens to Korn*

Seriously DT, I sure this situation is much more stressful than what you letting on, and I truely hope the best for you and your entire family during this time.
