Something Stinks in Blogland

Greetings and salutations, Gentle Reader.

The title of my post has nothing to do with some of the emails that I get, believe it or not. I don't even have any smartass comments to offer today.

I have no idea what in the Sam Hill has been going on with the blogs lately, but Blogland isn't the friendly place it was when I first started coming here.

I really enjoyed logging on and reading other people's posts, indulging in some friendly banter with other bloggers and getting to know people. For some reason of late, there are negative vibes everywhere. I can't fathom where this is coming from and it just fucking sucks.

I don't know whether it's a misguided sense of competition, jealousy over others' perceived on- or offline success or just a general need to stir the shit but a few individuals have made Blogland a place where I just want to lock my virtual doors and not speak to anyone.

Do you know what it reminds me of? It's like living in a perfectly nice neighborhood for years when an unhappy asshole moves in at the end of the cul de sac and starts messing with the neighbors "just because".

The negativity is causing some people to just pack up and move. That makes me sad.

Case in point, our Number One Blogger talldarkavg1. Please read his latest post [post 139283] to understand why he's had to stop hanging out on this site. I am sorry to see him go, but I understand why he has to do it.

If you're still floating around Blogland, TDA, I'll miss seeing you around these here parts. I do think that you need to change your screen name, though. You should be called talldarkwaybetterthanavg. You're a class act, my friend. Thanks for never failing to crack me up. I'll miss you.

I've said my piece, so I'm going to read some blogs (while their authors are still here).

Peace.

I read his last blog and was going to comment: Contact GOOGLE and make sure all the posts are deleted from their caches. Otherwise the stuff will hand around forever. Maybe he'll see this post, or has already thought of it.

DCEbony,

Thank you for your tribute to TDA. I'd only read him since I started my own blog, but his going has made our blogland seem a less bright place. All we can do is hope that we recognize him should he pass this way again, and send up a toast in memory of his blog.

In the meantime, we'll have to try to fill his place with our work. Being funny. Being tolerant of foibles, and merciless towards censors.

Keep on blogging...

Alex

Hi DC....I know 'zackly what you mean...I was gone for a few days and, well...it's like the house is vacant, the street is tornup and half the neighbors have moved out...WTF?

I called a few...they are doing fine, just said they couldn't handle the crap anymore...and I understood.

I miss your 'funny email' stuff...You write as often as I do...almost a blog a week. I know you're busy as I am...

Take care...you're one of the GoodOnes...

Saintlianna -

If you'd said that he was now in the arms of Jesus in the other place, I'd really be scared. LOL

Seriously, if you pass the message on to him, it would be very much appreciated.

You're a star.

It just seems silly that there was dust in the first place.

Anyway, I think I'll just continue maintaining my policy of minding my own business. It's safer that way.

Not just the week from the sounds of it! From what I've been able to gather, trouble has been brewing for awhile.

I will continue writing but the minute being on this site isn't fun anymore (and it's getting close to that), it's time for me to go.

I think a lot of folks have probably blogged about TDA.

On one hand I agree that we shouldn't be bullied off of the site but when a fun activity isn't fun anymore, what's the point of continuing?

I'm hoping that Blogland has turned the corner with all of the negativity.

B-b-but if I'm tolerant of foibles, I won't have anything to blog about! LOL

Seriously, my blogging doesn't come from a mean place.

As for us filling TDA's place with our stuff, we have our work cut out for us. The man is a writing machine!

You're right about the busy thing. I used to blog daily, then it became maybe three times a week. Now I'm down to once, if I'm lucky.

Life just gets in the way of blogging, doesn't it?

Heya DC, This is typical of what happens at most fun places. People have fun, are doing a good thing and expressing themselves, poking fun at themselve (or harmlessly at others), and then someone comes along with an axe to grind and no one in particular in mind. They just want to stir up bad feelings or cause someone else a bad time, just because they want someone else to feel worse than they do, or they simply cannot stand people who are popular for some particular reason. What I hate seeing is how these jerks can chase away great people like TDA and others. They spoil the fun for everyone, and you're right, it stops being fun entirely. I was a member of a website devoted to a particular 80's toy, and we were a closeknit group of friends. We open it up to the general audiences out there, and a few bad apples came in the ruin the fun. That site is all but dead now. I don't go there anymore. And it saddens me that it had to happen. Why? It's human nature I suppose. Some people are just naturally the intellectual equivalent to super-glue on the toilet seat.

I left my blogging rather quickly after starting it not because of bad things, but rather something good. I am deeply in love and we are pursuing a chance to have a life together. She lives in Japan still, and has some responsibilities to deal with first, but as soon as she can, she will come to the US again with her daughter and we will finally be able to live together. I might add a few blog entries about how that came about, it's a rather long story, but a good and happy one.

Blog on, DC! As it's been said before, you're one of the best ones here. I may not have really gotten to know you through personal messages, but I learned a lot about the quality of your character through this blog, and you have truly impressed me.

~Dak

Dc, my neck of the woods is always pleasant, if you dont mind dorkiness. Stop on by, have some coffee, read a blog, sit in front of the fire and talk, its all good. And I know what you mean, there is some serious shite that goes on sometimes, some people are cruel in their blogs, some are downright nasty. And I dont mean Ms. Janet if your nasty.

I know that your time on the blogs will probably be scarce with the new love in your life, but no one can turn a phrase the way you can.

If I ever get the opportunity to use "intellectual equivalent to super-glue on the toilet seat", I'm make sure that you receive proper credit.

When you get around to posting your story, I'll be right over to your blog! I love happy endings.

Does your neck of the woods have insects in them? If it does, I'm going to have to wait until they die off before I come visit. LOL

Janet would have to write an epic song to cover all of the nastiness in the blog. It would be like that R. Kelly story/song that's already up to Volume 12. LOL

Because I had become self absorbed in getting my group started and work stuff I had both stopped posting and visiting my favorite blogs; of which yours is one. I have taken this week to remedy that situation. I was really unaware of a rift in Blogville. I would hope that the witty, entertaining and thoughtfull nature of my favorite writers would continue. So sorry to hear of anything contrary to that.

Thank you DC. Yes, my time here will be scarce, but I promise to pop in every now and then. I made a few friends here, met some people who I think would be great friends, but amazingly enough, I did not meet the Love of my LifeĀ® here. That's a different story for a blog entry coming soon. Might even be a multi-parter! Watch for marketing tie-ins soon!

Yeah it seems as though blogland is the equivelant of the road to the Bagdad Airport as of recent.

Don't totally understand it, but hey, we is all just people, we make mistakes now and again, all one can do is appologize and move on. In the true hope that nobody was really harmed in R/L.

This shits supposed to be fun right?

There's nothing wrong with a little self-absorption from time to time.

I sincerely hope that no one was affected in R/L.

When you think about it, anyone on this site is really putting themselves out there, particularly those of us that hang out here in Blogland.

Even though I don't think I've said anything too terribly revealing, I sometimes doubt the wisdom of me being here.

So many doubts, so few hours in the day...

I've read a couple of articles where people's jobs were affected by what they'd put in their personal blogs.

Some of them were actually blogging about their workplaces so I can see why the proverbial shit hit the fan for them.

The more worrisome stories involved people doing things like blogging on company time and getting nailed for having done it.

I never do anything A F F related during working hours, but some folks might want to think twice about accessing this site from their workplaces.

Something Stinks in Blogland ehr... *blush* ...it wasn't me, really. Damn, why they keep on looking at me? How can they possibly know where it came from? Ehm... *cough, cough*... what? you were talking in a broad sense? Oh...

well, seriously, I must say that I understand a certain kind of people when they decide to quit, for a while or for an indefinite amount of time. It's humiliating to feel livid competition and rancorous allusions for something so trivial as a blog-derived fame. Makes one feel that however we behave, world is not going to change from being a colorful can of petty worms. For some sensitive people this feeling is so bad that they feel almost at risk of being tainted by its filthy arm and choose to disappear.

I personally was not a regular of TDA, but for what i read in his blog sure I would prefer he stayed and some other dozens left instead.

Never argue with an idiot. He brings you down to his level then beats you with experience

The main thing that happened was that the "players" involved forgot that blogging is supposed to be fun.

When it's not fun anymore (as in the case of TDA and others), it's time to go.

I'll miss them, but I do understand.
