Singles holiday.

At least once a year Suzy and I would have a foreign holiday, sometimes two. When we had two we would usually go in May and September. We loved Spain, Greece and Portugal. We would also have plenty of weekends away in North Wales, The lake district, and Cornwall.

I am thinking of having my first holiday since Suzy died and I have not got a clue where to go and what to do. It is going to feel very strange having a solo holiday, but I know I must do it to be able to move on.

I have decided to go in September or early October. I think I would like to try somewhere new. I don't want to go to places that Suzy and I went together, for obvious reasons.

Has anybody been on a solo holiday ??? Any tips or suggestions ??? Where is a great place to go ???

Holidaying alone terrifies me & ive never done it. Cant see me ever doing it either.

J's dad has been away all over the world alone, he loved Israel. If you dont fancy shores too far how about Belgium or Holland. Both beautiful countries & very welcoming.

I adore Bruge in Belgium & mum & I found a place called Nunspeet (im unsure of the spelling) in Holland that was so quaint.

I love the way the Dutch adorn their windows for people to view....they are the most houseproud country ive ever been to.

Wherever you go you wont be entirely alone, Suzy will be with you in spirit.

Hey Tony,

Sorrento and the Amalfi coast in Italy is fantastic in September and October. When we lived in Europe my family would vacation there at that time of the year. The French, Germans and American tourists have all gone home by that time, so you can enjoy it without the crowds. Plus the weather is still nice. You can also visit Capri and Ischia as well as go to Naples if you want some city life. It is a great place just to kick back and relax.

If you have the time, you can drive from the UK to Italy. If not the airfare on Ryan Air from London to Rome is unbelievably cheap. You can rent a car and drive down from Rome. Might even been able to get a flight to Naples. When I was going to school in London, I would take Ryan Air to Italy for visits. I don't know what Ryan Air has from either Liverpool or Manchester.

Hope you find a place that you can enjoy.

Thanks for your comments. I must admit that I don't think Belgium is the place for me. Isn't it supposed to be the most boring country in Europe. I think I would rather go to Skem lol. Holland on the other hand is a place I have never been and I have heard rave reports about Amsterdam. I do like the Dutch, So Holland is a place worth thinking about.

Thanks for the input Phoe.

Hi Header,
Italy is a place I have never been. You make it sound very nice and I am giving it serious consideration. There will be plenty of flights going from Manchester or Liverpool. Rome is a city that I should of visited long before now. You have also given me another idea to ponder. I have never thought of driving over before and as I won't be in any rush I could just cruise over and put a tent in the boot of my car, staying in different locations every day. Yeah that sounds appealing.
