Career advice please?

I seem to have been going on about my new job for ages, but now I'm stuck.

The one job that I thought my current employers wouldn't offer me is now on the table. I've asked for more details (of course) - I've made it clear that I've had some half promises in the past and if this is a half promise then I'm not interested...

But they have already confirmed more money than the other job - and a rise in grade.

So do I stay and work on a really worthwhile project for the firm with the people I love working with or do I step out into the unknown into something with great potential?

I hope you know - because I sure as hell don't!

My 2 cents? If you always do what you always have, you always get what you always did. You're so ready for a change, I can see it in you and so can others here, so I've zero doubt that your real world friends can see it too.

Don't slip back into the safety of the familiar unless you're really really sure

Also worth noting that it took a competitive job offer to make them offer you more money and status; would they have done so otherwise? That doesn't show you much respect, Chris. You deserve better, and in a new firm there will be opportunities for advancement that won't be sparked by selfish tactical advantage but by recognition that you deserve them.

I know its very frigthening to take risks but sometimes is the end its worth it.
I am now getting to the point where i can do this again and its bringing wonderful things into my life. I used to always be very scared of the unknown but would not let it beat i came to Germany to work in `91 and to go home again in `92 to take up s newly created post in Scotland.
If it doesn`t work out , you are an adult and can deal with that.
Good luck in whatever you choose.
