New friend

A few evenings ago I was randomly contacted (via Instant Message) on a different dating web site by a 21-year-old woman. Since that rarely happens (!) I was a little skeptical. I looked at her profile and pictures and she seemed interesting and quite pretty.

She seemed to think I was quite interesting and attractive as well. I kept wanting to write to her, "You saw on my profile where it says I'm 39, didn't you?" but of course I didn't.

I gave her my phone number and she called me the next evening. We've had several phone conversations lasting several hours apiece and we plan to meet this Friday evening.

I must admit that I'm really excited about it. It's amazing what a boost she has given my confidence. I actually feel more attractive and interesting even though I'm not much different than I was a week ago (I did scrub my shower, however).

She is very intelligent and passionate and when I talk to her I rarely sense the difference in our ages (I don't know what that says about my maturity level).

I'm a teensy bit freaked out by how certain she is that we're compatible. We feel compatible. Our conversations are fun and interesting. I like her pictures and she likes mine.

But what will we be like in person together?

I had a friend-with-benefits ultimately reject me because though our conversations and sex were pretty great, she didn't like my scent (yes I bathe; it was a new-age-y thing). I wrote about it in this blog a few months ago.

I just hope she understands that there is a chance we won't be compatible.

Also, we've talked once a day for the last three days and tonight she left me a message and I didn't return her call. I do plan to call her tomorrow but this evening I just didn't have much to say. Currently I don't talk to anyone on a daily basis -- not even my roommate. I did speak to my last girlfriend daily -- and I loved that -- but the desire to do so didn't kick in right away; it took a few weeks.

Anyway, I'm happy to say that I have something nice possibily cooking.

I hope you have yummy things cooking, too. )

IF YOU DONT TRY YOU'LL NEVER KNOW! there are quite alot of women out there who are VERY mature for their age.. and i believe life is to short to lie awake wondering with regret. be yourself and honest and you'll know if it has half a chance, like with everything in this life! dont be negative.

She's of age, you are, too. Maybe you'll both like each other's scent.

It's worth the shot, anyway, just keep your expectations real going in...the reality may surpass them!

Thank you all for your comments. I'm particularly glad that no one jumped on me about the difference in our ages. I look around at my friends -- most of whom are married/getting married and having babies/raising children -- and feel a little strange or even guilty, as though I'm trying to cheat Father Time.

Being around youth can be intoxicating, I must say. (It can also drive one nuts, of course, so stay tuned.)
