My current picture
My current picture
In case I change it at some point before people read this, my current profile picture shows me walking past the camera in only a pair of shorts and carrying a towel.
This evening I saw a statement that another member put in her blog and some other comments that she specifically directed at me after I'd posted a humorous comment on her blog.
Her blog statement was referring to how she sorted through the e-mails she received on this site: "I deleted all emails with pictures that looked like the guy specifically posed for a picture to send to girls online. Because you're jerks."
For my profile I use several photos taken for very different reasons. Would people assume that my current "shorts" picture is something I posed for specifically to send to girls online? If so, is that a bad thing? Does that picture make me look like a jerk?
I actually posed for that picture (un)dressed that way because I am an actor and thought I might be able to use the pose to get certain kinds of work. No, not porn, but maybe some romantic or leading roles. I ended up being too shy to submit it.
But my reasons for taking that picture shouldn't matter. It's me, it's what I look like, and I can't imagine why someone seeing it in the context of a site like this would conclude that I am a jerk. What do you think?
The other comments she directed specifically at me:
Based on my photo, I assume, she called me "Mister Poutie Face".
She then suggested that I "consider going with a different profile photo" because "if I was seriously into you, I wouldn't know whether I should open a bottle of wine and jump you or turn up some showtunes and do my nails with you. Not to be hypercritical here, but it's a cross between Richard Simmons and Agador Spartacus from The Birdcage."
Frankly, I don't have a response because I don't remember asking her for her opinion in the first place. I was just simply surprised.
I can only conclude that some bloggers forget that actual people read their blogs, people who sometimes have feelings.
And to those of you who might helpfully suggest that I ignore her comments, rest assured that she's done no lasting damage to my feelings, ego, or anything else.
What keeps running through my mind is, "My god, what a mean thing to say!"

Damn, Chooz, can I use your photo? Then again, when women see the real me, what a let down it would be for them! LOL
I realize you're probably looking for feedback from the ladies, but I have to tell you, I'm envious. It's a great photo, and if you've got it, flaunt it! However, with so many "lifted" photos on profiles here, the photo in question looks so professional that women might think it's a phony. Then again, what's a handsome actor/model to do? Maybe a more casual shot would work better.
As for the woman who wrote those ugly comments, she seems to have issues. Maybe she was hurt by someone and now is resorting to slamming and unfairly stereotyping men based on the way they look.....or maybe she's just a rude arrogant person who gets off making snide insulting critical remarks. Glad you are ignoring her, because her opinions sound like those of a shallow bigot who doesn't know what she's talking about.

Hmmm... i never thought that photo was authentic! As sweetcat said, most posed photos are considered "lifted" by women (me included), so i never take posed photos too seriously. But i have seen once whereby the guy had used his friend's photo so... okay, not important. But your photo is great. Don't worry about. Not all women have the same opinions as the woman you were talking about. |

I have to say I agree with you "What a mean thing to say!"|
I never thought that, but I suppose if a woman saw enough of those "posed-for" pics and stolen pics from magazines, they might automatically peg you as a fake... esp if they're not able to see the rest of your pics in your profile. Many standard members aren't able to see anything more than your main pic.
I dunno! One way to find out is shuffle your pics, a different one each week. See what happens!
I go with the pics of mine that get the most votes, then switch to newer ones. But men's pics don't get voted on as much (only paying members can vote), so that's not much help to you.
One easy rule of thumb... what attracts you to a woman's profile is usually pretty close to what a woman would be attracted to (a smiling face, erotic teasing exposure). Maybe try something a bit closer, same attire, more at ease.
Take about a thousand pics, and choose the best ones. I take 8000, then end up with 8 good ones.
Have fun, play safe!

I knew it was you! Hey, it's a little like Frankie Avalon to be fake. He was "dreamy" back in the day, so I'm told. I only get to see the oldie flicks on TMC.|
But, if it makes you feel any better ... I get emails asking if I'm real, who did my pics ... am I a clone, fake or just a bot.
It's hard to be me.
Anyhooo... don't go changing, to try to please them ... they know not who you are. Nuff Said!
Warm huggies 2ya sweet one
