Ah, college life!
Ah, college life!
No, I'm not in college at the moment.
Last night I participated in an event at my alma mater in which alumni in the entertainment field (I'm a playwright and filmmaker) make themselves available to answer questions from students hoping to start careers in showbiz.
I've been doing the event for about five years and I always enjoy it.
Each alumnus turns in a biography which is made available to students so they can decide which "expert" to talk to and I'm proud to say that my bio has gotten better over the years. But it's still hilarious to me how relatively uncrowded my table usually is compared to those of the agents, managers, and studio executives. These kids know who's making the big bucks (them) and who isn't (me).
My crowds tend to grow as the event goes on because the students have already met the money people and I suppose they have some time to kill.
Every year I surprise myself with how much I have to say about my career. Mostly I urge them to do as much as they can with their work right then -- while they are still in school -- because once they graduate they will never again have free access to labor (fellow students), equipment (cameras, lights, etc.), and facilities (theaters, studios).
I also had a lot to say about the craft of writing. In fact, I was amused because at the next table sat an executive for one of the major cable networks and she actually joined my table toward the end of the event so she could listen to me yammer on. I was very flattered.
Why am I posting this on AdultFriendFinder? Because, my GOD, those college girls are so HOT! A few times when they would pass (not too many of the hot girls sat down at my table, unfortunately; I mostly got nice overweight guys in glasses and sweaters) I would simply forget what I had been saying and lose the power of speech.
I think I'll be doing it again next year.
