Hurricane Katrina and my bed

As I was lying in bed this morning, curled up in the center with the comforter pulled tightly up to my neck and feeling like a raccoon snuggled down in his den while listening to the rain gently pelt the rooftop and dribble down the gutter, I have to say that my bed has to be one of the best investments that I have ever made.

What makes my bed so special? Well, aside from the fact that I'm in it, the way it came about is unique. Two years ago I was at Churchill Downs when I hit it big: a trifecta worth $3071 and change. After taking all of my friends out to eat (everyone else lost bad) that night I decided that I needed a new bed for my new apartment. I spared no expense, getting the softest, overstuffed pillowtop mattress, a large, light pine headboard and footboard, and a suede comforter to match. (You know you're living the high life when everything is dryclean only!). After two years of sleepy bliss I don't even know how I slept in the bed I had before. Every king has his throne- mine just happens to be built for two!
