Something a little different.

It's calm, out there on the blue-green expanse. A small boat bobs on gentle little swells and a fragile white bird sits atop it's mast. It sits and rests a while. Like the boat bobbing in the sea.

Nothing slaps against the hull. The rigging doesn't groan as it did once when stressed and stretched. Just a little boat and a little bird, at rest.

A canvas sheet hangs slack in the rigging. It too is at rest. Idle and lazy. Just some canvas, sun dried and salt crusty. An expanse of white over the water.

There's a ripple on the water, yards away. A feather rustles on that one little bird. It pulls it's face from under a wing, and looks east.

There's a ripple on the water. Coming closer now. Brass clanks on wood when the little boat rocks slightly more, side to side.

A rustle of fabric announces it's growing potential. The bird takes to the sky, rest is coming to it's end and it's life must once again move forward.

Slack draws out and away from the sail. Slowly at first then a sudden shudder and whomp-pop as it fills and bulges with it's air. It's life.

Wind now. Strong and constant. The sail billows and strains, tied to the mast.

A small boat, once at rest and left to ride lazy swells now races with the full power and speed of the wind it's welcomed.

He was like a sail, something that is slack until it captures the wind. Then it possesses the force of the wind.

A man should rest once in a while. Sit idle and lazy. But a man should know when the winds blow. When rest is over and life moves him forward.

T.
Nice to read you again. Ahhh... this is wonderfully written, clarity of both text and subtext... as I commented before, keep writing...

Moments of quiet and stillness - to be enjoyed - like early mornings - the earth still in slumber, breeze slowly caressing, sun not yet awake and the moon sleepy eyed, hearts beating slowly.. relish such moments, we see them so little these days...

PS - tip toe to your children's rooms and watch them at this time... they are all so beautiful then...

Those days are more or less over with I'm afraid. The man-child is hardly ever home any more and the women, well... If it's not a cat growling, it's a dog getting all spastic excited. Sides, they need a lot more privacy.

I hate when kids grow up...

..and all was calm under his familiar warm sun as he scanned the horizon searching for his reason.
From behind, her gentle wind found him and he suddenly realized he had purpose.

Think of you often, my sweet friend...
Stay tuned Shaye, another one's coming. I'm practicing that whole non-literal writing style. Man its tough!

And I think on you as well
