lapkin4u made a blog post (My first Rant and Rave!) that screams for a wide voice. I made a response that I'm sure will generate some lively discussion so in order that a wider audience has the opportunity, here's a free-forum space for you all to use to discuss her posts and comments to it.

Feel free to speak your mind but just be civil about it. I'll tolerate just about anything except personal attacks. And also, try to stay on topic - read lapkin4u's "My first Rant and Rave!" post for background.

Blog on!

Oh damn... I almost forgot! Unless I state otherwise, (eg, "this is my opinion, etc) all of my facts are verifiable - I'll be happy to provide them to anyone interested offline. Just request them via AdultFriendFinder email.

I would expect anyone stating anything other than opinions would do the same!

Saddam had sod all to do with bin Laden as Saddamm is and was more liberla in his religious views his second in cammond for God sake was a Christian,Bin hated him for not being a Strong Muslem.

Who are we to decide who leads and rules what country, plenty of African tin pot leaders but we won't take them out as theres nothing to gain from those Countries,

Saddam could have been taken out the first time when he invaded Kywait but george:s daddy couldn't keep his promise to help and backed out,he'd already got what he wanted more troops stationed in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.

The poor people in Irak are dieing today and living in fear as before they knew who was the enemy, today he's a stranger from another Country,

Why don't we bomb China,Korea,Pakistan,Iran, plenty of naughtyness going on in those Countries?

There Goverment in Irak is in place all georges friends, will the Irakie people live in peace Hell no as soon as we cowardly leave the shit whole we've created there will out right civil war between the Sunni's,Shite's and th Kurds in the North.

May all the Gods of this World help us

My opinion -

I think it's safe to say that (1) there are verified links between al-Qaeda (bin Laden and his cronies) and the Iraqi regime - if not Saddam himself, and (2) the generally high level of support the majority of the Iraqi population has for the continuing US presence in Iraq.

This still doesn't touch on the fact that the majority of the US, (or perhaps more appropriately the most vocal) do not support our continued presense even though both wars were overwhelmingly supported by the citizens of the US (and other countries) in the beginning as the moral thing to do.

In the face of this turning tide of opinion, I am faced with a disturbing question myself... Does this turn in opinion mean that there are those who would rather turn our backs (again) and leave Iraq in relative jeopardy before the mission is complete and they can stand on their own? Are people in the US (around the globe) so heartless that this opinion has more merit than the policy of rebuilding, retraining and supporting the newly established governing bodies?

The reasons for going to war with Iraq not withstanding, pulling out so soon, and before they are able to stand on their own would be tantamount to promoting the reinstatement of an equally oppressive (if not exponentially worse) form of "Government" than the one the US and coalition have successfully removed. It would be like ratifying genocide for the sake of public opinion.

And guess where we'll be in another 10 years. Yep... shoulder deep in sand pits, doing this all over again.

"But that's just my opinion... I could be wrong"
