Still smokin

I bet a lot of people are trying to quit smoking as New Year’s resolution. Does it seem like a lot more people smoke (here in the US anyway) than used to? Cigarettes that is, we can leave the other for another post. (wink wink, nudge nudge). I’m gonna dig up some statistics, I’ really curious about this.

I quit when I was in my 20’s. I must admit, smoking is a very enjoyable habit. At least it was to me. I quit because I decided it interfered with my health too much, and it’s way to addicting, meaning I couldn’t do it just once in awhile (like the “other” which is easy to take or leave). And, it really interferes with the sports I like to do, need that breath.

I think the big push after the 60’s got a lot of people to quit. You know, the Surgeon General and all that. I remember people smoking in hospital rooms, the old computer rooms, etc. I was watching the Twilight Zone marathon over New Year’s and noticed how integrated smoking was into peoples’ lives in those days. Now we have all the bans. In Colorado, several cities don’t allow smoking in any public building. In Aspen, you can get a ticket for smoking outside, LOL, gotta love Aspen… New York City, the state of California, etc. And I think the entire nation of Ireland, correct? Actually I like that idea, simply because I’m selfish and don’t like my clothes to smell like smoke. In Colorado Springs, you can still smoke in bars. I think that’s going to change soon enough.

Anyway, I’ve noticed that lots and lots of people whom I wouldn’t think smoke do. I knew two of my daughters did, then I found out this month that my other daughter does now as well. Three out of three.. My new girlfriend smokes. My ex started again. At my latest contracting gig, at least half of the people working there smoke. Half.. Interesting. Poor bastards on a cold day…

I’d probably have one now and then when alcohol is involved if it wouldn’t addict me again. I wonder though, is it just me or is smoking back again in a big way?

I quit smoking cigarettes on Wednesday, September 18, 1996 at 11:09pm after about 15 years of smoking - and I quit because my girlfriend at the time wasn't a smoker and wouldn't kiss me with ashtray breath. I finally got that kiss and ended up getting married to that woman.

I now have the filthy and more expensive habit of smoking cigars. Now the bitch won't fuck me.

ruready. again.

I quit when I was 30 because I wanted my health back more than I wanted to smoke. I think the wanter needs to change to be able to
successfully quit...and for the most part, I know that I'd rather
have other things in my mouth and really dislike the taste of
a smoker. I really love clean air...big time.

Just a little food for thought.............
If you really want to be happy, nobody can stop you...

Hi silky, I can relate. My mom is alergic to smoke, makes her ill when she's around it. It's banned in all Ireland right?

ru: it's okay my friend, i wouldn't fuck ya either! LMAO, now stop putting those cigars in those.... you know.

saddletramp: left handed one? is that what I think it is?

dig: hey buddy, in your case i think cigs are good for ya. fuck the surgeon general.

goddess: i agree. i don't think people should even try to stop unless they have the strong desire to do so. they just suffer, bumming them and feeling bad for not being able to do it. as far as having other things in your mouth, well, we'll leave that to the imagination.

I hope not.
I spent christmas in the hospital with my mother that smoked heavily. It complicated her pneumonia, and she diddnt recieve top notch treatment because they saw her lung capacity as a "lost cause"

Its a ugly and slow painful death...especially to the family members cleaning up the mess.

Its good to be...ME
