It's Only Words

TDA inspires a lot of us with his words. He inspired me today. Sometimes Words Are Your Friend, Sometimes Not. Thank you TDA. I'd like to say a bunch of sexy things about him, but, well, we'll leave that to the non-knuckle draggers.

We all know that those who have skill with writing words are the ones history remembers. These are the thinkers who are able to transpose the experience we call LIFE in to a method of communication that is universal to a culture. The scribes, poets and philosophers. Perhaps TDA will be remembered as one of those.

And, those who have mastered the ability to speak words are remembered. They put words to music to express life back to us. Poets, priest and politicians, as Sting would say. Singers and musicians. Speaking of Sting, damn I love him. I’d have his children, and I’m a straight guy. And words are SEXY when used well. Look at these blogs. I can’t stop.

The more you practice writing and speaking, the better you get. Writers know this. TDA knows this. Damn, he has a lot of stuff! And lots of others on here know this. And, the more you read, the more inspiration you get. Read, write. Read, write.

With all the wonder of words, they can cause problems too. Very contextual. A single word misspoken to an impressionable child can stay with the child for a lifetime. My deadbeat dad once wrote a little note to me when I was eight, while I was in the hospital getting my appendix removed. I still remember that, since the buttmunch never gave me time of day before he disappeared.

I’m amazed at how much the words in these blogs have impacted me. More than books and speeches by presidents (not saying much these days I know). Fascinating.

BUT: What about communicating WIHOUT words? We all have the ability. The more I meditate and quiet my mind, the more things I perceive outside the written and spoken word. Feelings, intuition, dreams, telepathy. Of course, here I am trying to use words to describe something that can’t be easily described with words, which is what the poets do so well. But let me try:

“This feels: funny, strange, good.
“I have a bad feeling about this (intuition telling me RUN!).”
“I dreamt about you last night, are you okay?”
“I feel bliss running through my heart.”
“Dude I am like SO stoned! Where’s the Doritos man?”
“That orgasm made every part of my body come ALIVE!”
“I felt you inside me, even though you are 2000 miles away.”
“I know what you are thinking. I don’t know how I know, but I do.”
“Something bad’s gonna happen here. I just KNOW it.”
“I love you more than words can describe.”
“I am you and you are me.”

Damn I suck at this! Rumi help!!! TDA, help! Need more practice.

I think as the human race evolves, we will use less words and more intuition, feeling and soul to soul contact. As those wise sages the Bee Gees said, “It’s only words. But words are all I have.” Maybe not…

PS–Speaking of words, I was supposed to speak to one of my clients an hour ago. I’m late because I’m here reading and writing words.. Maybe I’ll just send him a telepathic note.

Hi Ben'
I have thought about this very issue more and more lately.
Language, words, thw WAY they are presented, thoughts, expression, body language, thats another subject.
You mentioned two of my absolute fav' people.Sting....besides his music are you aware of the kind of fantastic marriage he has? I'm looking for a man that wants what he has worked toward. They go thru such a exotic ritual during forplay I have nearly made it my quest!

Bee gee's.."Words" one of the first songs learned to play and sing together just becasue I loved the melody and the "words" (meaning)

Here's something to ponder...I feel such a connection ,that its scarey, its all about the words.

Baby ... it's not how well you string the words together ... but how you manage to pull emotion from their core ... that's what makes the best writers come alive !

You're emoting ... I'm feelin' it ...!

Lillypond, hope you're well up there in the great northwest. Tell my brother I said hi!

Yes, words in and of themselves are just symbols. It's our indivdual take on their meaning that gives them life. Isn't it funny how the exact same words mean totally different things to different people?

Sting.. Yeah. He's a serial monogamist these days lol! I think that helps the focus. And oh, the Bee Gees.. I don't care what anyone says, I will always love them. "I Started a Joke" still gives me shivers..

xo

Loiness, I agree. Writing is like anything else I think, the more you do it, the better you're able to work with these things we call words. Also, I think some people have a more natural skill and have to practice less to get good at it? My daughter is that way. Even when she was a kid, she was writing amazing stuff. Whereas I have to work at it. I mean look at Shakespeare. I think he was put here by aliens, how could any human being in those days write what he was able to write? And could you imagine: no word processors? He did this with a quill and ink! WOW..
