Theme songs running through my head....

Crime Story theme Runaway by Del Shannon; I have the pilot on DVD...because I can! Remember the test I took...it said 52% male thought processes and 48% female processes. The second section is the difference between the original and the movie theme.

As I walk along I wonder what went wrong
With our love, a love that was so strong
And as I still walk on, I think of the things we've done
Together, while our hearts were young

I'm a walkin' in the rain
Tears are fallin' and I feel the pain
Wishin' you were here by me to end this misery
{Watching all the planes go by;
Some live and others die}
And I wonder. I wa-wa-wa-wa-wonder why
Ah-why-why-why-why-why she ran away
{Ah-why-why-why-why-why I don't walk away}
And I wonder where she will stay
{And I wonder what makes me stay}
My little runaway, run-run-run-run-runaway
{runaway, run-run-run-run-runaway, ah run-run-run-run runaway, run-run-run-run-runaway}

I'm a walkin' in the rain
Tears are fallin' and I feel the pain
Wishin' you were here by me to end this misery
And I wonder. I wa-wa-wa-wa-wonder why
Ah-why-why-why-why-why she ran away
And I wonder where she will stay
My little runaway, run-run-run-run-runaway

I'm a walkin' in the rain
Tears are fallin' and I feel the pain
Wishin' you were here by me to end this misery
And I wonder. I wa-wa-wa-wa-wonder why
Ah-why-why-why-why-why she ran away
And I wonder where she will stay
My little runaway, a-run-run-run-run-runaway
A-run-run-run-run-runaway

{I want to learn how to play the drums, just for that song! Jeez, I'm such a 'guy' about some stuff! }

Monk theme It's a Jungle Out There by Randy Newman

It's a jungle out there
Disorder and confusion everywhere
No one seems to care
Well I do
Hey, who's in charge here?
It's a jungle out there
Poison in the very air we breathe
Do you know what's in the water that you drink?
Well I do, and it's amazing
People think I'm crazy, 'cause I worry all the time
If you paid attention, you'd be worried too
You better pay attention
Or this world we love so much might just kill you
I could be wrong now, but I don't think so
It's a jungle out there

M*A*SH theme Suicide is Painless {lyrics by Michael Altman son of Robert Altman director of the movie MASH and music by Johnny Mandel sung by Kenny Primus in the movie}.

Through early morning fog I see visions of the things to be
The pains that are withheld for me I realize and I can see . . .
That suicide is painless it brings on many changes
And I can take or leave it if I please.

I try to find a way to make all our little joys relate
Without that ever-present hate but now I know that it’s too late,
and . . .That suicide is painless it brings on many changes
And I can take or leave it if I please.

The game of life is hard to play. I’m gonna lose it anyway.
The losing card I’ll someday lay so this is all I have to say.
That suicide is painless it brings on many changes
And I can take or leave it if I please.

The only way to win is cheat and lay it down before I’m beat,
and to another give my seat for that’s the only painless feat.
That suicide is painless it brings on many changes
And I can take or leave it if I please.

The sword of time will pierce our skins it doesn’t hurt when it begins
But as it works its way on in the pain grows stronger . . . watch it grin, but . . .
That suicide is painless it brings on many changes
And I can take or leave it if I please.

A brave man once requested me to answer questions that are key
'Is it to be or not to be' and I replied 'oh why ask me?'
That suicide is painless it brings on many changes
And I can take or leave it if I please.
And you can do the same thing if you choose.

Baretta theme Keep Your Eye on the Sparrow by Dave Grusin & M. Ames {Sung by Sammy Davis, Jr. covered by Merry Clayton released 1975 and 1976 by Rhythm Heritage; original version by Davis wasn't released or at least did not chart}.

Don’t go to bed, with no price on your head - No, no, don’t do it.
Don’t do the crime, if you can’t do the time - Yeah, don’t do it.
And keep your eye on the sparrow.
When the going gets narrow.
Don’t do it, don’t do it.
Where can I go where the cold winds don’t blow,
Now. Well, well, well.

{And, no, nobody knows why the song says "keep your eye on the sparrow" because Baretta's informant was known as Rooster and his pet bird Fred was a cockatoo.}

*******

Frasier theme song

Hey baby, I hear the blues a-callin'. Tossed salad and scrambled eggs
Oh My! Mercy! (alt: Quite stylish.)
And maybe I seem a bit confused, yeah maybe, but I got you pegged!
Ha, Ha, Ha, Ha!
But I don’t know what to do with those tossed salads and scrambled eggs.
They’re callin’ again.

{The following are the various alternate endings}

They’re callin’ again.

Good night, Seattle, we love you!

What is a boy to do. Good night.

Frasier has left the building. Thank You!

Scrambled eggs all over my face. What is a boy to do. Good night, everybody.

See you next year, we love ya.

*******

Greatest American Hero theme

Look at what’s happened to me,
I can’t believe it myself.
Suddenly I’m up on top of the world,
It should’ve been somebody else.

Believe it or not, I’m walking on air.
I never thought I could feel so free.
Flying away on a wing and a prayer.
Who could it be?
Believe it or not it’s just me.

It’s like a light of a new day,
It came from out of the blue.
Breaking me out of the spell I was in,
Making all of my wishes come true.

Believe it or not, I’m walking on air.
I never thought I could feel so free.
Flying away on a wing and a prayer.
Who could it be? Believe it or not it’s just me.

Friends theme I’ll Be There for You by The Rembrandts

So no one told you life was going to be this way.
Your job’s a joke, you’re broke, you’re love life’s DOA.
It’s like you’re always stuck in second gear,
Well, it hasn’t been your day, your week, your month, or even your year,

But, I’ll be there for you, when the rain starts to pour.
I’ll be there for you, like I’ve been there before.
I’ll be there for you, cause you’re there for me too.

You’re still in bed at ten, the work began at eight.
You’ve burned your breakfast, so far, things are going great.
Your mother warned you there’d be days like these,
But she didn’t tell you when the world has brought you down to your knees.

That, I’ll be there for you, when the rain starts to pour.
I’ll be there for you, like I’ve been there before.
I’ll be there for you, cause you’re there for me too.

No one could ever know me, no one could ever see me.
Seems like you’re the only one who knows what it’s like to be me
Someone to face the day with, make it through all the rest with
Someone I’ll always laugh with, even at my worst, I’m best with you.
It’s like you’re always stuck in second gear,
Well, it hasn’t been your day, your week, your month, or even your year.

But, I’ll be there for you, when the rain starts to pour.
I’ll be there for you, like I’ve been there before.
I’ll be there for you, cause you’re there for me too.

*******

Love American Style theme

Love, Love, Love
Love, American Style, truer than the Red, White and Blue.
Love, American Style, that’s me and you.
And on a star spangled night my love, (My love come to me).
You can rest you head on my shoulder.
Out by the dawn’s early light, my love
I will defend your right to try.
Love, American Style, that’s me and you.

*******

Murphy's Law theme by Al Jarreau

It's too good. It's too right. So something must be wrong.
It's a bubble that's gonna break says Murphy's Law
I need you. I want you. Been alone too long.
If it might miss. It's gonna miss. That's Murphy's Law.
And the perfect fit just rubs my worry stone.
But if it works don't fix it. Ya leave it alone.

CHORUS
'Cause you're the only luck I need. You make it go.
You're the only luck I need to make Murphy pass my door.

We put something on baby didn't we, didn't we, didn't we, didn't we.
It's so sweet, I repeat, that something must be wrong.
If it might not, then we must stop and talk about it.
It's a work of fiction they call it a law.
But the contradiction is we fooled 'em all

CHORUS

You're the only luck I need . . . . . . You're the only luck I need
You make Murphy tell and show
You're the only luck I need . . . . . . You're the only luck I need
To make old Murphy pass my door
If it works don't fix it the winner takes all
You know it's the Murphy fiction that's due for a fall.

CHORUS

*******

Moonlighting theme {also by Al Jarreau}

Some walk by night,
Some fly by day,
Nothing could change you,
Set and sure of the way.

There is the sun and moon,
They sing their own sweet tune,
Watch them when dawn is due,
Sharing one space.

We’ll walk by night,
We’ll fly by day,
Moonlighting strangers
Who just met on the way

*******

Secret Agent Man theme {Danger Man}

There’s a man who leads a life of danger.
To everyone he meets he stays a stranger
With every move he makes, another chance he takes.
Odds are he won’t live to see tomorrow.
Secret Agent Man. Secret Agent Man.
They’ve given you a number and taken away your name.

Beware of pretty faces that you find.
A pretty face may hide an evil mind.
Ooh be careful what you say, or you give yourself away.
Odds are you won’t live to see tomorrow.
Secret Agent Man. Secret Agent Man.
They’ve given you a number and taken away your name.

Swinging on the Riviera one day
Layin’ in a Bombay alley the next.
Oh don’t let the wrong word slip, while kissin persuasive lips.
Odds are you won’t live to see tomorrow.
Secret Agent Man. Secret Agent Man.
They’ve given you a number, and taken away your name.

*******

WKRP in Cincinatti theme

The theme starts with a mixture of quotes as if someone is turning the dial of a radio looking something good to listen to. Spoken: "Weather today in the greater Cincinnati area..." Sung: "...and haunt you so badly. I could..."
Spoken: "...they're solid plastic so don't settle for imitation..." Spoken: "...but the senator, while insisting he was not intoxicated, could not explain his nudity."

Baby, if you’ve ever wondered,
Wondered whatever became of me,
I’m living on the air in Cincinnati, Cincinnati, WKRP.
Got kind of tired packing and unpacking,
Town to town and up and down the dial
Maybe you and me were never meant to be,
But baby think of me once in awhile.
I’m at WKRP in Cincinnati.

*******

The Office theme Handbags & Gladrags by Mike D’Abo

Ever seen a blind man cross the road,
Trying to make the other side.
Ever seen a young girl growing old,
Trying to make herself a bride.
And what becomes of you my love,
When they have finally stripped you of,
The handbags and the gladrags,
That your Grandad had to sweat so you could buy.

Once I was a young man,
And all I thought I had to do was smile.
So listen all you young girls,
Who have bought everything that’s in style.
‘Cos once you think you're in you're out,
For you don't mean a thing without,
The handbags and the gladrags,
That your Grandad had to sweat so you could buy.

Sing a song of six-pence for your sake,
And take a bottle full of rye.
Four and twenty blackbirds in a cake,
And bake ‘em all in a pie.
They told me you missed school today,
So I suggest you just throw away,
The handbags and the gladrags,
That your Grandad had to sweat so you could buy.

And what becomes of you my love,
When they have finally stripped you of,
The handbags and the gladrags,
That your Grandad had to sweat so you could buy.

{As heard at the end of the show}
What becomes of you my love,
When they have finally stripped you of,
The handbags and the gladrags,
That your Grandad had to sweat so you could buy.

*******

Red Dwarf theme

Its cold outside,
There's no kind of atmosphere,
I'm all alone,
More or less.
Let me fly,
Far away from here,
Fun, fun, fun,
In the sun, sun, sun.

I want to lie,
Shipwrecked and comotoase,
Drinking fresh,
Mango juice,
Goldfish shoals,
Nibbling at my toes,
Fun, fun, fun,
In the sun, sun, sun,
Fun, fun, fun,
In the sun, sun, sun.

*******

Ya know, I would feel really messed up with all these songs going through my head, but considering it keeps It's a Small World and Barney out...I can deal!

*******

There's also one more, but I can't think of what the show was called {they switched the main actor when he either comitted suicide or had some sort of accident with a gun, I remember.}

I Need A Hero by Bonnie Tyler

Where have all the good men gone
And where are all the gods?
Where’s the street-wise Hercules
To fight the rising odds?
Isn’t there a white knight upon a fiery steed?
Late at night I toss and I turn and I dream of what I need
I need a hero
I’m holding out for a hero ‘til the end of the night
He’s gotta be strong
And he’s gotta be fast
And he’s gotta be fresh from the fight
I need a hero
I’m holding out for a hero ‘til the morning light
He’s gotta be sure
And it’s gotta be soon
And he’s gotta be larger than life (larger than life)
Somewhere after midnight
In my wildest fantasy
Somewhere just beyond my reach
There’s someone reaching back for me
Racing on the thunder and rising with the heat
It’s gonna take a superman to sweep me off my feet
I need a hero
I’m holding out for a hero ‘til the end of the night
He’s gotta be strong
And he’s gotta be fast
And he’s gotta be fresh from the fight
I need a hero
I’m holding out for a hero ‘til the morning light
He’s gotta be sure
And it’s gotta be soon
And he’s gotta be larger than life
I need a hero
I’m holding out for a hero ‘til the end of the night
Up Where the mountains meet the heavens above
Out where the lightning splits the sea
I could swear that there’s someone somewhere
Watching me
Through the wind and the chill and the rain
And the storm and the flood
I can feel his approach
Like a fire in my blood
I need a hero
I’m holding out for a hero ‘til the end of the night
He’s gotta be strong
And he’s gotta be fast
And he’s gotta be fresh from the fight
I need a hero
I’m holding out for a hero ‘til the morning light
He’s gotta be sure
And it’s gotta be soon
And he’s gotta be larger than life....

Hey Baroness I was just thinking about 'Moonlighting' tonight & wondering if they hhave that on DVD - haven't hardly heard mention of that show since it was on. I saw Pierce Brosnan on TV & wondered about Remington Steele on DVD - not that I'd probably buy that one but my next thought was, 'Hey what about Moonlighting?' Then I saw your post pic - cool timing... Do you know if it's on DVD? Some good songs BTW... quite a range on the timeframe.

Oh, yes, it's on DVD; Amazon and BestBuy and quite a few others have it, including Wally World *shudder* as far as I remember. I have the pilot episode on VHS, but then again...I'm always ahead of my time...or something....
