Are You Ready For When The Cylons Attack?

Sometimes you people are just plain lucky. Thanks to a suggestion by [blog AnOddGirl], and long before anyone from That Other Society gets to see it, you dirty pervs get a sneak peek at the Cylon Raider I built. It was briefly mentioned in That 70's Chick and she wanted to see it posted with a picture, so here it is. Sometimes its hard to tell size relations in photos, but it measures 22 ½ inches wide when the saucer wings are fully extended and 15 inches long and was made from probably more than 2000 lego pieces.

It is from the original Battlestar Galactica series and is totally a product of its time. Note the 70’s style louvers over the front window like that of an old white trash trans-am or camaro. That’s so the Cylons can get it on with Valerie Burtonelli in the high school parking lot without anyone seeing them. Just like in the original show, the inside seats three bad guys comfortably. I modeled the seats after those on the Ferrari 420 Spider so they look sleek, classy and space age. With the seats, control panels, dials and doo-dads, the interior sports the utmost in shiny robot bling-bling.

It was built for a competition with a friend who is building the good guy’s Viper and will eventually be photographed and posted together on That Other Website. The only thing shared between us was the scale so, like all competitions, this one was built in total secrecy and as of now posted nowhere else but here. Not to sway this competition before it even happens, but…um…I get feeling that bitch-ass friend of mine is going to shit a brick as soon as he sees what the Cylons have in store for him. The few people who have seen it in person say that its size and shape make it look pretty sinister. Ahhhh, sometimes its so good to be the bad guy! Don’t you all just love it when I geek out?

I don’t know what it says about my personality, but I’ve always seemed to side with the bad guys. Sure the good guys always got to rescue the girl, but when it comes to baaaadaasss weapons, ships and world domination, the bad guys had it going on. So, what do you think about that? Who do you usually side with? Good or bad?

Geek on Atomic!! It's super hot...I've told you that before

I don't take sides in a conflict least not until I'm reasonably sure who's going to win. Good luck in the competition!

so you don't take sides in a conflict until you're reasonably sure who's going to win? Well, you may as well just take my side now. This friendly little competition between my friend and me is nothing short of a conflict and there is nothing friendly about it. he's sooo gonna lose this thing.

I generally take on the good but still like the bad...

BTW you are truly an individual

AtomicArtist0 replies on 6/5/2006 5:45 pm:
nothing wrong with the good guys. They always get the girl in the end. The bad guys just get the herend.

and thank you for the compliments.

I know about your propensity for aligning with the dark side. Me? I land on both sides, more often on the good, I think.

You have brought order to my life. Now when someone tells me I have lost my mind with my obsession with scale model miniature scenes, I just smile and think, "Yeah but I know someone who has a greater hobby jones than I."

This is awesome, btw.

Yeah, I'm still [blog 1hotwahine]

AtomicArtist0 replies on 6/5/2006 5:56 pm:
I know you work with a specific scale when you do your miniature modeling. In lego I don't think we work specificly in 1:64 or 1:16 because the pieces don't really relate exactly in that way. But in building cars, the tires pretty much dictate how the rest of the model is going to go. The seats also dictate scale. I tend to build seats that are four lego studs wide and can comfortably seat a star wars figure...or in the case of the cylon raider, three figures.

Do I really bring order to your life? I guess there is always someone crazier than you. My reasons for hobbying always seem to include bloodlust and revenge and your reasons are...probably nicer.

Once I get it onto The Other Site, I'll send you the link. This one small photo doesn't do it any justice. Thank you for the compliment.

This is why the Good Guy's ALLWAY's win
Love the effort.
The Viper will kick your ass.

AtomicArtist0 replies on 6/5/2006 6:09 pm:
OOOhhhhhh!! you think so, huh? The Viper will win against this badaaaaassss raider, eh? Well, you may be right if it wasn't for the fact that the other builder is a punk-ass bitch. Yep, you heard me...a punk-ass bitch!

Thank you for the compliments and thank YOU as this was your good idea. The bad guys always had the best lines except for the Cylons whom as I recall just had some kind of unintelligable vocorder warble. It just made them that much more non-human. Pretty cool, actually.

By your command. Evil will always triumph over good, because good is dumb. Geek on, my friend, geek on.

_____Does it light up and have weapon and engine sounds? I want to see the Cylon Base Ship built to the Raider scale, when you get it done. I think you're going to need more Lego's for that. Still no USS Enterprise NCC1701? (That's the Original Series Enterprise.)

AtomicArtist0 replies on 6/7/2006 12:37 pm:
it has "lights" but doesn't light up and has no sound. sorry. and a cylon base ship built to the same scale as my raider would have to be bigger than my whole apartment building and yes this will require lots more lego so I don't think I'd be building that. I have never built the oricinal Enterprise, but other people have.

Just peruse my boxes of models. Space 1999, StarWars (orig) Millennium Falcon, fuck - a Robbie Robot(?).

The model I'd like to own - The Yellow Submarine. May have to cobble that one together one day!

AtomicArtist0 replies on 6/7/2006 12:35 pm:
you have all of those models?! Awesome! Whatever its worth to you, my stock in you just went through the roof. A friend of mine built the yellow submarine out of lego as part of his musicland exhibit in Canada. I can brag that the little scene he built within the top arch of the jukebox from that build was a bunch of astronaughts lounging on some far off beach with hula girls and was inspired by one of my own paintings. We compete pretty feircely, but we run in tight circles.
