Upcoming upgrades to blogs, groups, etc

We plan to go live with a bunch of new features
in blogs, groups, advice lines, articles, search results, etc by this coming Thursday (Aug 17th). Many of these ideas were ones that came out of the member posts in my blog - thanks for all your feedback!

  • Allow some blog posts to be read-only (disallow comments on specific posts)
  • Add underline button to text form toolbar
  • Blog owners can set posts to require pre-approval of comments by them (like testimonials)
  • Allow friends to get "permanent" pre-approval in a member's blog (see above)
  • Links in Blogs to Owner's Private Chat Rooms
  • Add quote & respond a la blogs to Groups/Magazine
  • Allow photos in Groups, Magazine and Blogs replies/postings (testing for premium members only)
  • Group associate moderators (moderator can pick who else can co-moderate)
  • Allow moderators to invite people overriding membership restrictions
  • Fancier voting system on members photo gallery
  • Add ability for moderators to disable voting in groups
  • Allow premium members written content to be viewed immediately in groups
  • Add Recent Visitors Table to Main Group's Page
  • Interest group moderator settings to turn on/off chat room & show/hide it on main Chat page
  • Show 'pending review' & 'Denied' Status in all written content
  • Add 'Home Town' to profiles
  • Add Individual Blog Post Comment Restrictions
  • "Show Hidden Posts"/"Hide Hidden Posts" links when viewing your own Blog
  • Group all of an Interest Group's polls in a specific 'Polls' section on the group's main page
  • Testing a new Main Page
  • Update layout of chapter pages in Sex Academy Workshops
  • Add "invite to network" links to search results (for Gold only)

While we have a few more features on the board for the August 30 release, we will be focusing on bugs/cleanup for the next two weeks.

This sounds really good if it works.

The 'recent visitors' thing in the groups, if it is like the blogs, I am NOT interested in that at all. I surf around the groups and I would not want them to know I have "visited".

I am seriously thinking of being a paid member again because of the blogs area of the site, which I feel is the best area of the site.

I am holding off my decision till the end of August though.

It's about time you expanded the features for bloggers.

It took forever to get some of the basic features we have now, and spellcheck STILL doesn't work right.

I second the motion on the blogger chatroom.

    That would truly be something.

    A chatroom strictly for bloggers...

You would need a moderator though, as I'm sure there would be drama.

    That's guaranteed.

Wow Andrew, that is a lot of new things!

I'm not sure if you have been made aware of this yet, so I'll add it here The option for turning on or off voting on images is not working correctly. I had to move ALL my photos to my Main picture (I have 19 of them on my profile!) and then click to turn off voting. It doesn't work from the main listing like it should.

While I love the fact that you gave all members the ability to have 20 pictures on their profile, I really think it is silly to ONLY allow Gold members to view those additional pictures. I know you ultimately want to bring more money in, but why not allow Silver members to see them as well?

Oh, and a miscellaneous question: Why can't I buy a single month premium membership on ALT?

Thanks for all the work you do to constantly make the site better. It's much appreciated. Now let's cross our fingers that no major bugs come from all these great additions!

Those are nice but this would still be a much better site if you would forget some of these bells and whistles and go with a faster server. When I'm on this site, I have to open 2 windows so that I'm not wasting my time waiting for pages to load. It's like I'm still on dial up on this site.

There are at least two or three groups for bloggers now. Each of those groups have it's own chatroom. You just have to find other people in there.

    Daphne,

    We're not talking about groups.

A seperate chat area strictly for bloggers.

Not sure if it would just be limited to silver and gold, though.

I agree that the site runs slow and at times has too many bugs.

I would prefer to see those corrected via a faster server than the extra features, but I also realize that he's trying to please his customers.

The blogging features we have now are fine for me.

I'd prefer he just concentrate on improving the efficiency of the site.

Broadcasting, when i use either the instant messanger feature it say' connecting' but never does, same for broadcasting. I have the stand alone messenger with the different site login options like AdultFriendFinder, ALT and the others. If I log into ALT it goes right through and works fine, including cam and all but when i try to login AdultFriendFinder or use the messenger service here it won't work. I've also trying gong to Passion.com and startinmg the instant messenger. I doesn't work there either.

I have deleted all cookies, rebooted. Removed the program and reinstalled it with no luck at all. The part that blows my mind is that I know that ALT is a sister site to AdultFriendFinder and and if everything works on ALT especially using the same messenger thingy then I would assume that the AdultFriendFinder thingy would work too.

Is there a separate server for AdultFriendFinder? If so then the current one may be overloaded due to a higher volume of users and might need to be upgraded. I really don't feel that the problem is on my end. This is a brand new PC that I'm using. It's a heavily upgraded Dell XPS 400, upgraded past an XPS 600 and almost equal to a XPS 700.

My cam is a Logitech 'Fusion' cam that is also brand new and the whole system runs like a scalded dog! My system works flawlessly on every other site but this one and it gets frustrating at times cause this happens to be my favorite site.

I would appreciate your help in this matter. I have consulted with customer service several times to no avail. Any tips or hints that you could give me would be greatly appreciated.

The only blogger group I know of is the one run by GOTD. There is never anyone in that chat room. Not to mention, standard members do complain they can't get into the group chat rooms. It works for some of them, but not all. The regular chat rooms are open to everyone on the site, not just premium members. I think a bloggers room would be a great idea. Especially if it can be set up like rooms like The Couples Couch and the gay and lesbian rooms, where you have to fit the bill to get in.

Oh whoops. I do have a request for improvement- The Friends group thing.

When someone declines an invite, I have no idea who it is, because when I click on the Declined link, MY photo and info shows up, not who declined.

Also when declining, I'd like to see some choices for the decline and a notification of the decline.

As it is, a person is pretty much left in the dark on a declined invite

I'd like my network to actually reflect correct information.
I did a clean up and narrowed my network down to 10 people.
On my page it says I have 20 and when I'm looking at my friends network page, people I removed still show with my friends. When I
actually go in and view my friends, it only shows the 10 that are supposed to be there.

I'm very excited about the new features coming!
    (especially the underline feature) hehe
I would like to see a server upgrade though.
I have broadband and this site reminds me of my
    slowass dial up days.

With the added new features going live hopefully by the 17th, I do hope that the features that will be available to only premium members will be listed in the Secured Order Form for premium membership. That way it will cut down on some of the confusion of members to knowing what feature of the site are paid features and what features are not.

Thank you for all your hard work. However, I would like to point out that the ability to ban from the advice lines is not at all what we were asking for. The way it stands now it will cause more problems than it fixes. Only the originator of the thread has the ability to ban or delete from the thread.

Therefore people will ban any comment that disagrees with their view, they will flame other members and that member, having been banned with no recourse will then CREATE ANOTHER thread to get their point across. It will be flame wars spread throughout multiple threads instead of being confined to one.

What we asked for was the ability to IGNORE (not see the posts) from certain members whether we originated the thread or not. His comments would not be deleted, they would be available for anyone who WANTED to read them, and invisible to those who didn't.

The troll that we had the year long problem with on the advice line has finally been removed. But that member CREATED all the slanderous racially bigoted, flame filled posts himself! The way you have it set up now, it would HELP people like him, he could say what he wants AND have the ability to ban anyone who disagreed.

I realize you are busy and have a hard job, but I really wish you would re-think this one idea, it's not at all helpful and most regular responders have fled the advice lines already.
    Andrew,

I think this is something that you should pay serious attention too that is mentioned here.

Members being able to ban members in the Advice Lines or Article sections will more then likely produce even more abusive behaviors between conflicting members then ever before.

The reason is that several members in the Advice Lines take many of the responses to them way to personal and at times will 'attack' a member and try to discredit that member in front of other members; consequently, there are two things that an abusive member will do to continue their harassment of a member\members they have a personal conflict with. (1) They will post new topics in order to insult and discredit the member\members they have a conflict with for other members to read; thus, this can cause another (reader) member to becoming abusive towards the member\members that is being posted about with insults. (2) The abusive member will simply work their way around the ban by creating another profile, some of these abusive members refer to a second, third, forth.... profile as a throw away profile because the intentions they have when signed in to it is to harass another member\members and break the TOU of this site by doing so.

Unfortunately, there is no 100% way to avoid member to members conflicts from happening on this site and especially without ISP Tracking and Blocking of abusive members.

If I may suggest, test the waters with the new banning feature in the Magazine Sections and Advice Lines for a month and compare the number of calls and emails (reports) of members complaints about abusive members in those sections to the complaints that been emailed in the past. You may find that instead of a decrease there will be an increase.

    Nick

    Cool!

Eh, on a side note - any chances of getting the emoticons built up?

I have over 200 that I'm willing to share, mainly simple & fun...
...but alternatively, we could "save" a limited amount somewhere & that could be loaded (since most are under 1k) when using specific commands in our postings. What I mean is, if I want to show of what XD is, then when I do that in my blog, it will load the emoticon instead...?

Perhaps create a "blogging only" profile, so that the profile can remain open but you can receive emails only from people that have an active profile, plus any other handles of your own choosing? In other words, you allow people to contact you by inclusion rather than exclusion? I know that practically this may be impossible to programme, but just a thought...

Sorry, this is irrelvant, but just two basic upgrade suggestions to the instant messaging system that might improve it and save some time as well...

    1) The "autoreply" message is only used where there has been no previous message from the sender..it is awkward when you occasionally send a new email from someone you have had previous messaging with and they get the dreaded "autoreply" message, which as far as I can tell, is really only meant to buy time for members sending you their first message/initial contact. Can this be easily programmed in?

    2) Leave some blank free form text so that you can create a couple of your own "Standard Replies" when the ones given are not relevant...Sometimes that means that you have to waste time sending a personal reply and you want the efficiency of sending an autoreply but you can't, because the auto-reply is not relevant or not quite what you want to say you don't like the "tone" of the standard replies..

Sorry Steve, I haven't posted or voted anywhere here previously, but I couldn't let this pass. You have a voting capability, would you prefer that were used, or you had another sixteen pages of quotes and "me toos" or "No No Nannette"?

I actually that was quite a parsimonious and polite way for people to support or politely disagree with someone.

    Kind regards

actually, he was talking about the groups when there was no capability, someone was going through 'certain' group threads and disagreeing with every single post, when no one in the group had voted before, so they thought it was someone just being smart.

While we have a few more features on the board for the August 30 release, we will be focusing on bugs/cleanup for the next two weeks.

It seems that the pleas of those who wish the basic capabilities to be stable and bug-free have been utterly ignored.

Also, it appears that many of the existing "introduced" features such as image uploading in interest group posts and/or "associate mods" don't work yet (I know the latter is one you listed.)

Still Andrew, I must inveigh that you seem to live in a world in which gobs of new capabilities will be installed ... on a system that lacks basic workability.

It seems that my profile conveniently vanished prior to your last round of replies (p.3 of your previous blog), else you would've seen how many folks agreed with my basic complaint that the cart of fabulous features is being placed before the horse of fundamental functionalies.

Friend Finder management seems to desire to fly up into the sky, while the members (and interest group moderators) are crawling in the mud. You get the ass-kissing offers of compliments from attractive females, but we have to deal with the fact that a lot of basic stuff around here just doesn't work.

Two weeks for bug cleanup?? (What about the bugs that existed prior to this new release?)

Gosh, you live in a different world than the rest of us. Are you listening? We have been screaming our lungs out here for months!!

      Sounds good.

What about a blogger chatroom though. That would be very cool.
The chat room idiots would only come and abuse that too

Bye everyone, it was a blast

Isn't there some way you could stop people from outside the site from viewing us? I am aware that if you google search a word, any word that is on a blog title you can see it accidently from outside, you also see the members pic. This leaves us open to people who aren't even signed up to the site to be able to view our blogs. Also I know they can view part profiles and group main pages, complete with members pics, they can read the bulleting board too.

Isn't there anything that can be done to keep all our activities just on the site? Most people on this site are looking for discretion but it isn't very discreet when the whole of the world wide web can access anything on the site.

Have y'all considered allowing for any pics to be used in the body of blog posts? Not just the ones in a members profile, but whatever we have to upload?
I just quoted Keithcancook here because he mentions the one feature I've been hoping for most for awhile now. Being primarilay visually oriented and an artist as well this one thing would add so much more dimension to not just my own blog but those blogs of many others out there who are similarly oriented.

Also it would be way cool if each blogger had a way to easily have access to the entirety of their own chronological comment history. The current utility which allows you to see and access the last hundred of anyones comments is cool and useful but if you have been blogging awhile and you wish to locate some of your older comments it can be a daunting task to exactly find them.

It at least seems that expanding this capacity to track ones own full range of existing comments should not be that difficult as the basic foundation for it already exists in the current system.

Anyways I would certainly appreciate and frequently use something like that.

And thanks so much for the new array of added features. I'm looking forward to when they are all in place and operating bug free.

PS. The one bug I keep running into right now is that my own old deleted replys to my own blog comments which had typos in them have now reappeared sandwiched in with the new corrected ones. If I try deleting them again they are still there after the deletion attempt as if they are permanent.

How about some speed and reliability instead of bells and whistles. This site has difficulty with what it does now how is it going to be with more features?

Sorry to bring my glitch here, but I've written CS three times, with no reply. I haven't been able to access my own profile for about a month now. The program asks me to re-enter my password, then boots me off the site. I'd like to revise my profile and view the results. Can you help with this? Thanks!

As far as the upgrades...can't see that any of them would improve my blogging experience. I'd rather see a faster server, and I agree with Miss Ann regarding the creation of a blogger's chat room. I'm sure the upgrades wil improve the users' experiences on other parts of the site

I left a first comment. In the process of posting it, it disappeared.

    Now my blog is gone.

Consider me and my silver membership gone.

I realize you don't care Andrew as you have many more. That's the biggest disservice of all.

All I can say is this. Would you please fix the blog from disappearing so much. It happens to me almost every morning now.

Well, I see that we do have a 'recent visitors' to the group homepage - but I'm unclear what that really means.... who is 'shown' here, and who is not?

At one time I found this idea of a visitors list amusing, at the moment, it seems so inaccurate that I wonder why it's there at all? I regularly read other groups, but appear not to show up on there's when I visit.... why not? I currently have my 'allow others to see that I've viewed their profile' to off... but this doesn't stop me from showing up in my own group. If the 'who's visited' is only for 'members', then why are non-members/former-members showing, while current members are not?

There are people that are members of the group, whom I know have checked in and read.... but who don't show up. There are non-members which I know regularly read, but who don't show up either... so this led me to think, maybe it only shows members or former members, then it seems there are the occasional 'unknowns' who DO show up on this list. What function does this serve if it is misleading? or incomplete? or erratic?

Simply - Who is this list filtered to show? and why are some people showing and others not?

Is this something the mods will be able to disable in the future? -v

Blah, blah, blah...more empty, silly promises.
I don't know who's in charge of marketing and strategy here, but they obviously aren't up to the job.
This site, while still the most popular, has too many un-fixed glitches.
Instead of "promising us the moon" or offering silly "bling contests" (...bling? What, are we gangsta rapper thugs?!) or that ill-advised "Reputation" rubbish, how about streamlining the site and updating the slow-speed and fixing "gremlins" constantly plauging AdultFriendFinder?
We don't necessarily want more frilly distractions, just a faster, more efficient site, responsive to our needs, not yours.
The Romans foud out that "Bread and Circuses" didn't work, too.
