Perception is reality

Hmmm. Seems like I apparently project a lack of confidence in my profile and what I write, or at least one woman thinks so. I took the opportunity to write and this is what I received for a reply:

"Reading your email and profile, I'm not sure if you are bored or find this whole concept some sort of joke? You also don't seem to have much self confidence in who you are and what you say. Blah, blah, blah just doesn't cut it...for me. Thanks anyways..."

Apparently it was quite the thought question since it took a week for her to write back. But thinking about the above, I can say with certainty that:

I'm not bored.
I don't think this is a joke but do believe humor is important. Reading the same stuff in every ad can become somewhat humorous. I use humor (apparently successfully in this case but not with the intended result) to set my ad and what I write apart from the bland repetitive drivel I've seen so far.

And my use of self-deprecating humor seems to have been, at the least, unappreciated or quite possibly lost on her.

But there perhaps is some truth in what she wrote in that continuous rejection without any positive reinforcement tends to erode one's self-confidence. All of which apparently feeds the cycle of rejection to no confidence to rejection, etc. Apparently she felt that was reflected on some level in what I wrote.

I wanted to thank her for her feedback and insights but apparently I have made her "blocked" list. Which is kind of cool since it is a first for me. I sense a growth opportunity; guess I should celebrate.
