Taken for granted?

Do you ever feel taken for granted?

I sure do at home. Won't go into details here ... but time after time I find myself supporting her or doing things to help her which used to be appreciated but now are expected.

I'd guess most "being taken for granted" happens in the family and/or at work.

And yes, I know, it's my own fault, but sometimes the cure seems worse than the disease. By that I mean, I'm not really sure that I want the additional interaction that would come with being more appreciated.

So why the hell do I remain in that situation? Damn good question.

Well....I felt the same way here. The more I did, then more was expected of me.

So, slowly I started to pull back doing less. When I am reminded of all that I use to do, I remind him that I am only one person...he can pick up the slack.

I guess it goes both ways...that's the way my future ex thought of me. One of the reasons why I am getting divorced.
In a truly good relationship, neither partner takes the other for granted. Even if the roles are different they should each be respected and supported. Good luck. Only you will know in the long term if you can live the rest of your life like this. I couldn't.

While reading your response, I realized that being taken for granted is probably a symptom of poor communication - and the communication in my relationship has never been all that good ...

And there are two of us to blame for that.

Thanks for the comments.
